What's an API code? I looked it up but I don't see the relation to that.

Wow, you are smart and you make this look so easy. Of about 1500 or so songs I have purchased there are in my PC 20,000 songs!!! The first time I uploaded my songs they sat in the Groove app for a month looking real good. This was 11 months ago and was my first PC so I had never even looked at the File Folder. An update turned many of those songs into numbers without titles and songs without artwork covers. All of the album artwork covers was sent to all of my photo storages. The next time I downloaded an album to my mp3 it changed the song cover artwork on all of my songs. Many now didn't even have covers. Over this year I have continued to work on it and to purchase new albums from Amazon. Looking at all the copies I got the App from Microsoft store that removes extras and what that did was to remove all of the songs from their albums and deleted hundreds of good songs, leaving bad copies. I had to Restore from the Recycle Bin and now I look at over 20,000 songs, hundreds of copies and I have these on several flash-drives as backups also. Am I to Sort everything into named folders again? Am I to try to create folders and name which album each song belongs and then place those albums into new folders each selectively named by the artist? I see I have another years' left of work to do. I downloaded your vid here to watch and hope this gets me some order in my music.

would that sorting work when you play the USB flash driver with sorted MP3 into car player like GMC cars
My Tech Adventures (1 month ago)
Don't know for sure, but I don't see why not. If your car can play mp3's from a USB stick then there would be no reason why it doesn't work. And even better it will all be named and tagged correctly to browse through :-D

I think just wav and mp3 files, but you can double check on the musicbrainz picard website.

The problem with MusicBrainz Picard is that it cannot find every track properly as usual and especially if these tracks belongs to a compilation.

Okay, so how do you maintain/transfer that nested file hierarchy that you created in iTunes to your android phone to listen to it and view it in that way. SO basically duplicated your iTunes playlist image in your android phone?

Not so useful. Who has a massive music folder that only contains mp3s? I have terabytes of music that I've ripped over the years in a variety of formats. "In a matter of minutes" if you have hardly any files. This would definitely take hours on my collection, especially for files stored on an external drive (which they have to be if you have a collection of any reasonable size).

A Couple of points. 1. That is NOT a massive library, but a tiny one. 2. Music Brainz Picard is ok to use, but its far from perfect. 3. As you have already run your tracks through Picard, then Picard has written the metatdata (artist ID, album ID etc), so while your search looks fast (as its just reading its own metadata), it is in fact a slow laborious task. 90% accurate, 10% completely wrong. If you blindly let Picard label and sort your music, then expect wild innaccuracies across the board, Also worth noting that Picard will remove Genre as this is not available on its database
My Tech Adventures (1 year ago)

Cool program, but the album art is the worst looking covers I've ever seen. Scan mores and different sizes. Sad for a web site that wants all the tags to be perfect to connect to sloppy looking cover art. Fanarttv is connected to musicbrainz for their listing of album art covers and they have struck quality control. They have the best quality covers hands down. But musicbrainz is not connected to fanart for the cover art. Major fail.

Will this help with Kodi / xmbc ?
Carpe Diem (3 years ago)
I find MBC to be 90% correct, 10% completely wrong. Not something to rely on for naming music, or keeping accurate Album collections. Many times it will split one album up into many other parts . I consider my music library to be large (400k+ tracks, and not massive), Your example showing a few previously tagged songs makes it look oh so nice and quick, the reality is that it is far from quick, and far from accurate .

Richard L (3 years ago)
what do i do if it misses a few songs?
Simon Hartman (3 years ago)
Hmmm, a few issues with this. 'Scan' really should only be used once 'Cluster' + 'Lookup' hasn't found the matching song/album for you. It's quicker and wont sort as much into annoying Various Artist releases. If that hasn't worked (usually because there's no pre-existing tags in the files, or the tags are wrong), then scan everything. Also [artist] > [(year) album] makes far more sense to me in terms of folder structure than [artist] > [year] > [album]? But whatever.. If people have questions/ issues I would highly recommend searching for the answer on http://forums.musicbrainz.org/ or on their documentation, and failing that asking whatever questions you have on their forums :)
Keenan Colquitt (3 years ago)

5179anonymous (3 years ago)
Or... barring the ability to just sort everything by id3 tags which wold be SO FUCKING SIMPLE AND EASY compared to this enormous clusterfuck....   is there some way to create your own albums if you can't find a match on the Picard website? Preferably something easier than going through all the hassle of submitting a new album to the website, I'm talking about something you could do in the program itself without accessing the website. Is that impossible?
Simon Hartman (3 years ago)
+5179anonymous Use a program like MP3 tag which will lets you edit tags manually as you please, I'd use that. Picard is made to work with the MB database to automate things as much as possible (although some manual editing is definitely possible, in the very bottom two panels of the interface). If you can't be bothered adding things to the database (eg helping other people when they tag their files) then there's no point crying when nobody's added your albums for you :P
5179anonymous (3 years ago)
Is there some way to get Picard to just use the existing tags from the file rather than scanning everything and trying to be too smart? Often it can't find a song or album... when all of the information is clearly there in the tag already. Why bother looking it up if the info needed is in the file? Annoying...

Alright, so I have this massive Aphex Twin discography.  The fella has released stuff under many names.  So all my stuff is tagged, but its very inconvenient the way its organized on my phone.  I was wondering if there was some way to add an over arching tag, putting all Richard James projects in one place.  Any suggestions?  Then there is the matter of my Cocteau Twins singles. So with the Cocteau Twins singes, I want to listen to all of them while I work out, but I don't want to listen to their albums.  Am I just going to have to make a playlist?  I workout more than the 4 songs, which is the average number of tracks on one of their singles.  I don't know, maybe I don't mind being distracted by having to screw around on my phone in the middle of a work out, but sometimes it is very annoying. Anyway, thanks for any tips.  If anyone knows of any other good Twin or Twins music, let me know.
outwardjourney (3 years ago)
It's a good start... I do thank you for the videos! Just wanted to let others know that for ME, it works about 50% of the time. I'm also running into a problem where if a folder has been "tagged" it won't find them again when they're scanned again. When you're scanning about 19,000 files, it has a tendency to lock up every once in a while, or during a large save process. Another issue I have is that well known artists and songs aren't being tagged when they're scanned. More than 1/3 (Closer to 1/2) of the scanned mp3 files I have came back as unmatched. It's working so far for a few others with minor problems.

Boss! Thanks for the help man
Stephan Greening (3 years ago)
This is awesome man, thanks a ton. I'd tried to use MusicBrainz Picard before but wasn't sure about all the details. And I guess I'm too impatient to learn it on my own. One question, do you have any advice on finding duplicate files on Mac? On Windows, it's pretty easy to search for (1) and (2) etc etc and find the duplicates and delete. I'm not having any luck with this search method on Mac. I'm using finder, and command-F search, and I've tried searching for name, and filename, but not getting good results. It's almost like Mac doesn't search for the ( or ) characters, and just brings back any file with a 1 or 2 in the name.  Thanks for any advice.
Petar Stankovic (3 years ago)
Good tutorial but extremely inaccurate and bad program. For example I loaded "Back in Black" album from AC/DC but it tagged songs like they were from different albums, some songs were from some best of compilation, some were from "Back in Black" some were tagged as "Brian Johnson Years" album, really mix them up. Is there any way to fix this? I have over 5200 albums and some automated process would really help me but this can't seem to guess albums, names of songs and artist yeah, but it tags albums randomly. Also that track id tag is messed up, since the Back in Black song from album "Back in Black" is number 3 for example and in other album (some compilation it automatically scanned) is number 7, so numbers are mixed up also.

Simon Hartman (3 years ago)
+5179anonymous " they have to be scanned. Why fucking WHY???" They don't. If you use 'Cluster' and then 'Lookup', it will search the MB database for albums using your existing tags/ groups, exactly what you need. There's no problem with the software, you've just been looking at misleading tutorials. The 'Scan' function is specifically meant to ignore your existing tags.
Petar Stankovic (3 years ago)
+5179anonymous They didn't have accurate tags... I ripped few CDs on my own, and different releases have different tags... I wanted WHOLE collection tagged the same way (only song artist album and photo in tags, no year, no comments, no genre) and then I wanted to rename it based on those tags "song number - song title" but it wasn't possible because of those tags... and auto tagging doesn't work well at all, especially not since I have around 50 thousand songs... Anyways now it's all good, I converted them all in .wav so there are no tags anyways and everything was sorted into folders anyways so I just renamed few that needed to be renamed. Now only problem is that songs are named differently, somewhere there is title first then album, somewhere song number then title somewhere artist - title - album etc, but before I put it on player I rename it if it isn't in format I wanted, that way I'll need at least 6-7 months to rename all but I do it only occasionally, before I transfer music to portable player :)
5179anonymous (3 years ago)
+Petar Stankovic If your files had accurate id3 tags then you could do what I just did. See my comment above.
