Musk only spends 2 to 3% of his time talking to the press, with plans to cut it down to 1% so he can free up time for – you guessed it! – more focus on engineering and design. Marketing done right can be extremely powerful; I’m not saying it has no place in your business model. The vast majority of us don’t have Elon Musk-level capital to fund our businesses and get them off the ground. But if it comes down to a choice between more marketing for a mediocre product, or money money spent improving product quality, I’d choose quality every time. This series won't just talk about stuff, the plan is to share with you as many of the things I have learnt in the last 15 years (or so..) as possible through each stage of the design process to help you become far better designers than I can ever be. I'll be looking at research, sketching, model making, portfolios and a whole load of other things. I often think of youtube as a speed learning tool. Have you ever seen the Matrix films where Neo first learns martial arts by uploading a programme to his head or Trinity learns to fly a helicopter in minutes, that's how I see Youtube, Youtube is our version of the Matrix. So this series which is primarily aimed at students studying industrial design, product design or design engineering in university is designed to do just that, give you a knowledge boost to hopefully make your projects, designs, presentations and portfolio a lot better to improve your chances of getting a position as a designer, or your projects if you want to start your own company, anything related to design. I also hope with the content, that everyone will be able to take something away from it as many of the tips I'll give over the course of this series will be applicable to lots of areas of life. There's just isn't enough out there on product design, compared to say cookery shows it's very under provisioned and so I'm trying to redress the balance. There's far more nuance and strategy required to achieve results nowadays. For me, and some others... we LOVE IT when things become harder. We LOVE IT when Amazon makes some big change and people inside of Facebook groups are going ballistic. WHY? because I know right then and there that my competition has just dropped by a percentage. There's another handful of people that will never make a dime on Amazon, or won't even attempt to because they think it's to hard etc... ⭐ WHAT'S WINNING RIGHT NOW & PROBABLY FOREVER: Coupons are slowly dieing. Deeply discounted sales from coupons are not ranking products a fraction as well as they used to. FULL PRICE sales are, and probably will always be the most effective, efficient way to rank an Amazon product. The best way to pull this off is to utilize rebates as well as the frequently bought together section of your competitors listings. ⭐ PEOPLE MAKE RANKING COMPLICATED: Ranking on Amazon is not complicated, contrary to popular belief. Selling units on a daily basis, at a comparable rate to the other products in your niche WILL get you ranked over time. There's just no way around that. Sales velocity and conversion rate still reign supreme on Amazon for ranking. Plus when you launch a new product you can expect either success or failure. Whatever the outcome you should be ready to take it positively. In case of success, you should take pointers and make your product much better. If the product launched is not as successful as you expected you should go back to the drawing board. Take note of any mistakes you might have made and try to create a better product. Launching a product provides a great opportunity to learn. Of course, you are not certain of how people will take the new product. However, you can make better preparations. You dream business needs a positive leader. Since, challenges come from different angles you need to enlighten yourself by joining a life coach support group. There is a lot you gain from associating yourself with people that have launched a product before. The support group provides the expertise and experience to help you withstand the entire launch process. Launching a product for your dream business is great achievement but nonetheless challenging. Therefore, you need as much support as you can get. It’s good to mention that getting knots in the stomach is practically normal. The support team helps you prepare for any eventualities and how to react. If it’s a consolation success and failure is part and parcel of any thriving business. All you have to do is fight off all the negative thoughts that can paralyze you if not put in check. You should remember that the product you are launching will help so many people.
