We made time for major attractions like Il Duomo, Sforza Castle, and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, but we also veered away from the crowds in search of street art and interesting neighborhoods. This being Italy, we also tried to prioritize meals, sampling everything from pizza to risotto, and cappuccinos to aperitivos. The following travel guide will highlight 20 things to do when you visit Milan, Italy 1) Milan Catherdral (Il Duomo - Duomo di Milano - Domm de Milan) 2) Il Duomo Terrace 3) Italian Breakfast - Cappuccino and sweet Italian pastries 4) Sforza Castle - Castello Sforzesco 5) The Galleria - Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II 6) Risotto alla Milanese - Milan style risotto 7) Street Art around Porta Ticinese 8) Colonne di San Lorenzo - Columns of San Lorenzo Roman Ruins 9) Boat tour down the canal (linea traghetti gaggiano milano) 10) Dine along the canal in Milan's Navigli District 11) Aperitivo drinks and buffet - Apéritifs and digestifs 12) Shopping in Milan down Via Torino 13) Visiting Chinatown for some Chinese food 14) Ride a bicycle in Milan like a local 15) Pizza al taglio (pizza al trancio) Italian pizza by the slice 16) Basilica of Sant'Eustorgio containing relics of the 3 Magi 17) Duomo Museum covering the cathedrals history in-depth 18) New City Views with a hop-on-hop-off bus pass 19) Museum of Natural History - Museo Civico di Storia Naturale di Milano 20) Night views of Milan nearby Il Duomo http://nomadicsamuel.com/photo-essays/20-things-milan-blogville Our trip to Milan, Lombardy was part of the Blogville project where we stayed in a local apartment and experienced all of the best cultural activities, museums, restaurants, arts and entertainment the city has to offer. This city guide is our best attempt to create a mix of best attractions and off-the-beaten-path activities that you won't necessarily find in a typical Milan tourism brochure. 20 Things to do in Milan Italy Travel Guide Video Transcript: Our first stop was Il Duomo, which is the most recognized attraction in the city. The cathedral took nearly six centuries to complete. So we've sat down at a little cafe and we're going to have our first Italian breakfast with cappuccino and sweet pastries. Something that surprised us about Milan is that there is a castle right in the middle of the city. Sforza Castle was built in the 15th century by the Duke of Milan, and it then underwent several restorations and expansions in the following centuries. Today it houses several of the city's most prized art possessions, including frescoes by Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo's very last sculpture. For some upscale designer shopping, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is the place to be. So we just found a local little restaurant and we're going to be trying a traditional dish that is very popular in this city and in the Lombardy region. We are going to have Risotto alla Milanese. The Colonne di San Lorenzo are the remains of Roman ruins that date back to the 2nd century. They are believed to have been part of a bath house. Another fun activity to try in Milan is a boat tour of the canals. The city's canals are attributed to Leonardo Da Vinci, who in 1482 was called over by the Duke of Milan to help renovate the city’s canal system. Milan's Navigli District is one of the liveliest parts of town especially when the sun goes down for dining al fresco. So we've gone out for our first Italian Aperitivo. Which is kind of like a pre-dinner drinking tradition. Basically, you get yourself a cocktail for about 10 Euros and that gives you access to this massive buffet. And that's all for our visit to Milan. We hope this video will give you some cool ideas of sights and attractions to check out. This is part of our Travel in Italy series showcasing Italian culture, Italian arts, Italian foods & Italian cuisine. Rising from the waters of Venice Lagoon is the Italian city of Venice, a city like no other. Begin your visit in the central district of San Marco, and walk upon one of the world’s great squares, St Mark’s Square. The square is surrounded by some of the city’s finest jewels such as St Mark’s Basilica, St Mark’s Campanile and Doge’s Palace. Just outside stand the Columns of San Marco and San Teodoro. From here, journey along one of the world’s great aquatic thoroughfares, The Grand Canal. Glide past elegant palazzos; once the homes of wealthy merchants, today many of these palaces house important museums and galleries. Known as The City Of Bridges, Venice has hundreds to explore. The Accademia Bridge links the San Marco district to the Accademia Gallery, and offers some of the Grand Canal’s finest views. The oldest of the Grand Canal’s four crossings is the Rialto Bridge, which today still serves as the gateway to the Rialto Markets. The most famous of all is the Bridge of Sighs, which connects Doge’s Palace to the historic prison. Venice is a city to get lost in, so put away your map and let her surprise you. Discover waterfront promenades of The Zattere and the sleepy canals and spacious piazzas of Castello. On the tiny island of Murano, glassmakers have been creating works of incredible delicacy and color for over 700 years. Further across the lagoon, the island of Burano is famed for its brightly colored houses and exquisite lace. Venice has shone her light into the far corners of the world for over one and a half thousand years. Just remember, this city smiles upon those who linger. So stay for a few nights, or stay for a month, and savor every moment she has to offer. http://www.expedia.com/Venice.d179981.Destination-Travel-Guides -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow us on social media: Twitter: https://twitter.com/Expedia Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/expedia Instagram: http://instagram.com/expedia Pinterest: http://www.pinterest.com/Expedia/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+Expedia -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow us on our travel blog, Viewfinder: http://viewfinder.expedia.com/

My First Solo Travel - Italy Diaries: https://youtu.be/GYvnyrs3OIg Hey Everyone. So, as most of you already know, I am back from my first SOLO travel and it's been an amazing experience. No words can explain how fabulous my entire journey was. The people I met, the places I've been to, everything made a difference. Landscapes are like my thing. I crave to watch sunrises and sunsets. And Italy has a lot of it. Positano was one of my dream places I wanted to visit, and yes, i finally strike off my first thing of my bucket list. For me, living and moving around like a local is the key to get the real essence of a place. When I want to visit a place I have never been to, I try to avoid those 'touristy' must see places. I try to opt for places where the real culture is hidden. So, even in this europe trip I chose to go to places which are like close to my heart - told you, have a thing for landscapes! Europe is treasured with landscapes, coastal shores and beautiful lakes. This video is like a diary - my travel diary! It doesn't have in detail planning details (i will make a different video on it). I tried to make it as beautiful as I have experienced. I hope I am at least halfway successful in doing so. Do leave in the comments how did you enjoy my first travel video. ----------------------; ---------------------------- Music Credits: Nostalgia by Tobu https://soundcloud.com/7obu Creative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported— CC BY 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/b... My 10 tips traveling to Italy in Europe - subscribe! more pictures with tons of annotation coming for traveling to Italy. Why did we choose Italy for our vacation? We wanted to go to Europe but unsure when or where. In January 2016, my wife found a 2 for 1 air only special on Travelzoo.com between JFK and Milan for $900. So, we bought 2 airline tickets for only $900 through Emirates airline almost 10 months in advance with blackout dates and non-refundable clauses. We had to limit our trip to 3 cities - Milan, Venice and Rome and back to Milan. No Florence, no Naples and Pompeii, because we simply didn't have enough time (7 nights). 2 nights in Milan, 2 nights in Venice and 3 nights in Rome, so time to book hotels. JFK New York to Milan, Italy is an 8 hours flight to and 9 hours flight back. Milan (Holiday Inn) at Garibaldi, Ca Bella Bed and Breakfast in Venice and Mood suites Tritone in Rome. Read my blog for tips about each of these 3 hotels. http://newdiyeveryday.blogspot.com/2016/11/my-tips-of-3-italy-hotels-i-stayed.html#!/2016/11/my-tips-of-3-italy-hotels-i-stay ed.html • Tip #1 - Use Google maps or Google earth to find metro stops or train station to Hotels before your trip. Easy to walk to hotels. Tip #2 - Go to your bank to order euros and it takes about 3 days for the banks to get the euros. It is about 85 cents euro to 1 US dollar in October 2016, but if you wait until it is too late. You can only get 0.75 cents euros per US dollar at the TravelEx stores with no waiting for 3 days from banks. You need cash for places that don’t take credit cards, coffee and desert places etc. Yes, you can get euros when you get to Italy at local ATM. But, I didn’t want to be seen by scammers in Italy. We also used cash to pay the local city tax at Ca Bella B&B. I emailed all 3 hotels in advance about the city local tax payment option. B&B and Mood Tritones Suites don’t accept credit card so cash only. Tip #3 - Buy or borrow a converter from 220 Volts to 110 volts for charging your smart phone, ipad, digital cameras etc. Italy uses 220 volts as most European countries. Tip #4 - Bring your laptop, Hotels wifi and high speed trains all have free wifi, but only Laptop can get 100% wifi reception not smart phones. Tip #5 - Avoid scams in Italy and watch for pick pocketers – read my blog http://newdiyeveryday.blogspot.com/2016/10/avoid-this-scam-in-our-october-2016_61.html#!/2016/10/avoid-this-scam-in-our -october-2016_61.html to learn about our first scam encounter when we went to buy our metro tickets at Milan Garibaldi subway station on our first day. What a bad impression! Luckily, we didn’t run into any more scams during the remaining trip. I like to travel at my own pace instead of going with tour groups (probably cheaper), so I tried to book museums, etc. tickets instead of buying guided tours. Tip #6 - Do use “official” (many claimed to be) website to buy tickets to bypass the waiting line. Best tour group we bought was a narrated minibus tour for Vatican museum and garden in Rome. The super long line will simply ruin your trip if you don't buy a group ticket in advance. • Tip #7 - Milan last supper – www.vivaticket.it – The trick I heard is to check the website 6 times a day until you find the tickets and 2 months ahead of time. I ended up buying a guided tour for 1 of my 2 days visit in Milan. Official ticket for 12 euro (10 euro + 2 euro booking fee) from the official website. Milan Last supper tour and hidden treasure walking tour was well worth the money. Tip#8- free beer and wine on Emirates airline economic class Tip #9 - Do buy your intercities train tickets in advance even before your trip starts. The closer it gets to your travel dates the more expensive it will be. http://www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en No need to buy in-advance tickets from Malpensa airport in Milan to city of Milan, because no discounts. Tip #10 Book in advance the public waterbus before going to visit Venice - ACTV vaporetti , single day or multi-day tourist travel card. Our itinerary 10 day and 9 nights – self tour to Italy (Milan, Venice and Rome) • Rent a one-way car from DC to JFK airport in New York • Board Emirates airline from JFK NYC to Milan Italy (Malpensa airport) – first night on airplane Take a train from Malpensa airport to Garibaldi station • Stay in Holiday Inn by Garibaldi subway station for 2 nights (2nd and 3rd night) • Take a train to Lake Como (celebrity lake) in 1 hour • Take a train (eurorail) to Venice, Italy and then water taxi to our B&B Stay in Ca Bella B&B for 2 nights (room with 2 windows view of a hidden canal) – 4th and 5th night • Take a train to Rome and stay in Mood Suites Tritone Apartments for 3 nights (6th , 7th , 8th ) • Take a train from Rome back to Milan • Fly back to NYC (9th ) • Drive back to DC

We went everywhere. Of course, we got a gondola, every day. You remember Erik. Babies like the gondola. But big kids like it more. Chiara showed us a secret garden. It was inside of an old convent. That’s the wall, which makes it secret. I think those are angels. I know they’re on columns. Everything was right there, but we couldn’t have found it alone. Luckily, we had help. Join me on this incredible Italian food tour in Rome! ►Subscribe to my videos: http://bit.ly/MarkWiensSubscribe ►Watch the full series playlist: https://goo.gl/179qoF ►Camera gear I use: https://goo.gl/68UlWd Day 14 on our Round The World Trip for Food: Rome, Italy - On our very first day in Rome, we set off early in the morning to see some of the most famous attractions in Rome, including the Colosseum and the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. After doing some more sightseeing and having lunch, we had an amazing Roman food at a restaurant in Rome called Trattoria Dal Cavalier Gino. 00:37 Breakfast at the hotel - To begin the day of sightseeing in Rome, we had breakfast at the hotel, and did the final planning of the day. 2:12 Colosseum - One of the most important and well recognized attractions in Rome is the Colosseum and we arrived pretty early to get in, and I also had pre-purchased my tickets online to attempt to beat the crowds and not have to waste time waiting in line. It worked well, and as soon as the Colosseum opened, we went through security and got in. It was an amazing sight to see, especially because it was so quiet when we arrived. 3:51 Roman Forum and Palatine Hill - Locate in the same area as the Colosseum is the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, and so that’s where we went next. Again, seeing the ancient ruins of Rome was truly spectacular. 5:48 Trattoria Luzzi - I wasn’t quite sure where to eat lunch, and located right around these famous attractions in Rome, there are a lot of expensive, and probably not so good restaurants. We decided to go check out a restaurant called Trattoria Luzzi, just down the road from the Colosseum on the opposite side of the road. I ordered Trippa Alla Romana, a Roman tripe dish and also a pasta of Amatriciana. Overall, the food was good, and it was a friendly little restaurant and the location was good. Total price - 21 EUR ($23.47). 10:31 Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano - After lunch we headed to Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano, a huge basilica in Rome. Right across the plaza is Scala Sancta, a small chapel with a 28 step staircase where Jesus is believed to have ascended. 13:25 Gelateria Valentino - I don’t know of anyone that goes to Rome without eating some gelato, and right around the Trevi fountain area of Rome, you’ll find a lot of gelato spots. We tried Gelateria Valentino. Gelato - 3 EUR ($3.35) 14:50 Trevi Fountain - Another one of the most iconic attractions in Rome is the Trevi fountain. We didn’t spend too much time there, but it is pretty cool to see in person. 16:25 Amazing Italian Roman food at Trattoria Dal Cavalier Gino Restaurant - For dinner, my wife and I met up with Valentina and Antonio. After walking through the amazing narrow lanes of Rome, we navigated our way to Trattoria Dal Cavalier Gino Restaurant, where they had made a reservation for dinner. The restaurant is exactly what you want in a classic Roman Italian food restaurant, a family style restaurant that offers an abundance of Roman dishes. We first started with some types of Roman pasta including cacio e pepe, and carbonara, all of which were incredible - the best pastas I’ve ever had. Then we moved on the an amazing assortment of main Italian food dishes, including veal, lamb, and so many other amazing dishes. It was an Italian food meal like I’ve never had before. Most of the dishes were Roman food style. Thank you Valentina and Antonio for the amazing dinner! Day 14 in Rome was an amazing day of visiting some of the most famous attractions in Rome and eating some incredibly delicious Italian food! Heading to Venice on Vacation & Want a bit more insider information on this amazing island city? Here we have 5 quick tips to help travelers get the most out of visiting Venice, Italy. With over 20 million visitors a year Venice is quite popular, but let us help you figure out a few things you should know before you go to Venice. 1. Be Prepared to Get Lost: wandering the back alleys and canals is vital for enjoying Venice, Italy. However, some tourists might get a bit scared not being on a popular tourist route. Well with tons of signs and locals that know tourists get lost you won't be lost long (it is an island after all). So grab a map and still get lost enjoying those amazing hidden squares and cafes. 2. Pack Your Patience: with 20 million tourists Venice is inundated with tourists all parts of the years (especially in summer). So be prepared to wait in line for sights, wait for restauratns, fight through crowds to go over the Railto bridge etc. 3. Don't Expect The Greatest Italian Food: with all of the tourists that come not all the restaurants try their hardest. They know tons more tourists are coming the next day. So ask one of the locals for some local places to try some local food and you will be better off. 4. Dress Modestly: some of the churches will not let you in to visit their collections if you are not dressed appropriately. 5. There Is More Than Just The Venice Island in Venice: go explore some of the outlying islands like Murano where you can see the glass blowers, or visit the beaches just outside of town in the warmer months. Also, you can save a lot of money staying in Mestre instead of on the island of Venice.
