If you wish to master aurora photography and learn from award winning photographers then check offer by Iceland Photo Tours at https://iceland-photo-tours.com/ On 25th February 2014 Sun produced X4.9 flare which on 27th February caused G2 (KP 6) geomagnetic storm on Earth. It was the brightest aurora display so far during this solar maximum which I could witness with auroral displays overhead in the far north of Scotland. Northern Lights - Aurora Chasing-how to find & photograph the Northern Lights

17:58
We show you how to chase, photograph and video the Aurora Borealis. Our film mixes spectacular footage of one of the one of the most powerful Auroras (the St Patricks day CME) in recent years (especially the last 3 mins of the movie) with tips on how to see and shoot the lights for yourself. Other film makers' "video" footage of the northern lights is almost always shot with a time lapse stills camera. There is no time laps here, its all real time! We have filmed with a full frame 35mm state of the art handheld video camera, the Sony VG900 with an f1.4 lens. Additional footage was filmed on the Sony PJ760. Stills photos were taken with the Nikon D5000 &Sony NEX 5 and one pic with the Canon 5d. Music is by Sigur Ros and is used with permission, see here: http://www.sigur-ros.co.uk/band/faq.php#13 Do keep up to date with the Aurora by checking out Spaceweather.com At the end of very strong aurora displays, we often see a sort of strobing effect. We've never seen these before in any video, so perhaps here we show them for the first time at the end of our film. PLEASE SHARE THIS VIDEO

ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY 101: How to take single pictures of the northern lights? 4K TUTORIAL

04:42
Welcome to this new tutorial brought to you by AMP&F. In this episode, I quickly go over the basics of aurora shooting, and notably how to take a single exposure of the northern lights. To shoot the aurorae, you need to go to a location where they easily show, like Norway, Iceland, Canada, Sweden, Russia…From there, choose a clear night (the moon isn’t such a problem for auroras as they can be very bright, but choose preferably a moonless night to see all their details and colors), and go instal your camera in a nice location that you had spotted before. From there, follow the instructions of my tutorial: - Install your gear (low-light performant camera, fast bight wide lens, sturdy tripod, intervalometer, maybe a lens heater to prevent the formation of condensation) (Watch my astro-tutorial about basics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQcRYj4AIT8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgmUpfel6bU&t=9s) - Focus manually on a source of light in the far distance - Adjust your settings: you might want to try different settings according to how fast and how bright the aurora is, but a good starting point is: Lowest f/stop that your lens allows, or a tad higher for more sharpness Optimal ISO (watch my tutorial on finding it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTziTvQp8Kc&t=790s) or ISO between 1600 and 6400 as a starting point sShutter speed between 1 and 15 seconds depending on the other two. Be careful though, the longer you expose, the blurrier your aurora will be because it will have moved. The quicker the aurora evolves, the shorter your exposure time should be, so you’ll have to compensate with your two there settings. The key to succeeding single aurora pictures is to look in the green body of the aurora (glowing oxygen) and watch for blown out highlights (too much light that it appears white). A little is okay, but too much will lead to a loss in details and data! There are tons of techniques to improve your aurora pictures and I will continue to post more advanced tutorials about them, but this should get you started on your journey to capturing your first lights! On a side note, you will be so blown away by its power with a huge rush of Adrenaline that I advise you to watch the spectacle first, and then start taking your pictures… It is to me something that you have to see with your own eyes first! Thanks a lot for watching and I would appreciate if you gave this quick tutorial a thumbs up and don’t hesitate to ask questions, I would be happy to answer them! Take care! The Northern lights put on a mesmerizing show last night. Unfortunately my main camera didn't like the cold moist air and I had to resort to balancing my cell phone on the tripod to get these images. Considering the setback I think it was still interesting enough to share. So here are some glimpses of what I saw. I hope you enjoy. Have you seen the northern lights? what was your first experience like? I'd like to hear what you thought. Let me know in the comments.

Nikon D3300 18-55mm Kit Lens - Northern Lights Timelapse Video 4K

00:29
Hi Everyone, Just decided to post this time-lapse video so that you know that the entry level Nikon D3300 DSLR camera even with the Kit Lens can make very nice photos, even in poor light conditions. I have seen guys near me with cameras worth thousands of $ and the image quality was almost the same(I'm referring here to night photography) Get your camera and invest first in your EXPERIENCE. When shooting some nice places it's not just your camera who sees it, you see all the beauty too, so enough excuses, go outside and improvise. My settings: Shutter Speed - 13sec ISO - 400to800 Aperture - 3.5

Northern Lights - unedited pictures

02:09
Aurora Borealis of KP3 seen in Iceland, 30km north east of Reykjavik in the hills of Mosfellsdalur. Unfortunately no pictures can do justice to this super wide angle phenomenon as their constant movement means no sharp edged pictures even with prime lenses. Best seen in person and swept into memory.

Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) Tobermory, Ontario Canada

00:23
On Thursday, September 1st, 2016 I was in a cottage at Dorcas Bay, 9 kilometres south of Tobermory and I was preparing my equipment for an astronomy observation night. The night was perfect; not too cold and with an unbelievable low humidity. I never saw the northern light before and even though they were up in the sky I didn't realized about the fantastic show that was unfolding already. I continued setting up my equipment and started taking some testing pictures for a time lapse photo I was planning to do that night. While previewing one of the pictures I couldn't believe what my camera captured: the northern lights were right there with almost all the possible colours of the rainbow: the greens, yellows, violets, pinks, fuchsias, etc. My wife was already inside the house, so I run inside and I called her to witness such an amazing spectacle. My hands were shaking of emotion and excitement of the moment. We are from a tropical country and seeing the Aurora Borealis is one the greatest experiences in our lives. The location we were at was perfect with an open sky heading north and a framing line of spruce trees in the distance that highlighted the beauty of the Aurora. No major artificial light and of course, as I planned, a perfect moonless night. We enjoyed the show for at least 3 hours at around midnight and had the opportunity to take multiple pictures using various settings and standing points. The astronomy night we planned, ended in an INCREDIBLE northern lights observation and photography night. We were able to see the waves produced by the solar wind pushing the aurora's light particles at a great speed in an amazing dance of light and colour. On Friday we prepared early and went out wishing to have a similar show. Nothing happened until approximately 12:15 p.m. when the aurora appeared again. Not as spectacular as the night before but amazing still. Perfect for a time lapse photography session that I processed as soon as I arrived back home. This second night, I set my camera closer to a small lagoon with quite waters reflecting the northern lights and thousand stars including The Great Bear Constellation. After the second night I spoke with the owner of the cottage (he lives in the cottage right beside the one I rented) and he told me that in all his more than 17 years living there he has never seen the northern lights. When he saw my pictures he jumped like a little baby (he is approximately 80 years old) and said "How have I never seen this? while they happen in my own backyard!. How dare you not wake me up! I explained to him that I thought the northern lights were a frequent spectacle there. He added: No, you are a lucky man in the right place at the right time and with the right camera. Thanks for watching!

Aurora Borealis-Northern Lights

05:53
Pictures of the Northern Lights with relaxing and beautiful music. Auroras (north/south polar lights; or aurorae, sing.: aurora) are natural light displays in the sky, usually observed at night, particularly in the polar zone. They typically occur in the ionosphere. Some scientists[who?] call them "polar auroras". In northern latitudes, the effect is known as the aurora borealis, and it was named after the Roman goddess of dawn, Aurora, and the Greek name for north wind, Boreas. Aurorae are produced by the collision of charged particles from Earth's magnetosphere, mostly electrons but also protons and heavier particles, with atoms and molecules of Earth's upper atmosphere (at altitudes above 80 km (50 miles)). The particles have energies of 1 to 100 keV. They originate from the Sun and arrive at the vicinity of Earth in the relatively low-energy solar wind. When the trapped magnetic field of the solar wind is favourably oriented (principally southwards) it reconnects with Earth's magnetic field, and solar particles enter the magnetosphere and are swept to the magnetotail. Further magnetic reconnection accelerates the particles towards Earth. Resource: Wikipedia Music: Liquid Mind Into the Silence of my Being Part 1
