07 MySQL Tutorial for Beginners: Logical Operators (AND, OR, NOT), NULL, IS NULL Clause

09:39
"Logical operators" enable us to use more than one condition in WHERE clause. You use the AND "logical operator" to specify that the search must satisfy both of the conditions. In other words: both conditions must be true. You can use "logical operators" in a WHERE clause to combine two or more search conditions into a compound condition. You use the OR "logical operator" to specify that the search must satisfy at least one of the conditions. In other words: only one of the conditions must be true. You can use the NOT "logical operator" to negate a search condition. The order of precedence for the logical operators affects the result of a search condition. When MySQL evaluates a compound condition, it evaluates FIRST the AND operator and THEN the OR operator. You can use parentheses to override the order of precedence. If you want, you can use parentheses to clarify the sequence in which the operations are evaluated even if they're not needed for the expression to be evaluated properly, just as you can with arithmetic expressions. A column can contain a NULL value. A NULL value is typically used to indicate that a value is not known, unavailable, or not applicable. A NULL value is not the same as a zero or an empty string. If you want to test for NULL values in search conditions, you have to use the IS NULL clause instead of the normal comparison operators. A NULL value is not the same as a zero and as an empty string. The row that has a NULL value isn't included in the result set when numbers is NOT equal to zero as well. You can also use the NOT operator with the IS NULL clause. How to use natural join. Natural Join with ON clause and Natural Join with Using clause Natural Joins with the USING Clause • If several columns have the same names but the data types do not match, natural join can be applied by using the USING clause to specify the columns that should be used for an equijoin. • Use the USING clause to match only one column when more than one column matches. • Do not use a table name or alias in the referenced columns. • The NATURAL JOIN and USING clauses are mutually exclusive. Tool used in this tutorial is SQL Developer. This tutorial series is part of SQL expert exam certification training. if you are preparing for SQL certification you can use my tutorials. Difference between except and not in sql server

04:41
except vs not in sql server difference between not in and except in sql server In this video we will discuss the difference between EXCEPT and NOT IN operators in SQL Server. The following query returns the rows from the left query that aren’t in the right query’s results. Select Id, Name, Gender From TableA Except Select Id, Name, Gender From TableB The same result can also be achieved using NOT IN operator. Select Id, Name, Gender From TableA Where Id NOT IN (Select Id from TableB) So, what is the difference between EXCEPT and NOT IN operators 1. Except filters duplicates and returns only DISTINCT rows from the left query that aren’t in the right query’s results, where as NOT IN does not filter the duplicates. Insert the following row into TableA Insert into TableA values (1, 'Mark', 'Male') Now execute the following EXCEPT query. Notice that we get only the DISTINCT rows Select Id, Name, Gender From TableA Except Select Id, Name, Gender From TableB Now execute the following query. Notice that the duplicate rows are not filtered. Select Id, Name, Gender From TableA Where Id NOT IN (Select Id from TableB) 2. EXCEPT operator expects the same number of columns in both the queries, where as NOT IN, compares a single column from the outer query with a single column from the subquery. In the following example, the number of columns are different. Select Id, Name, Gender From TableA Except Select Id, Gender From TableB The above query would produce the following error. Msg 205, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 All queries combined using a UNION, INTERSECT or EXCEPT operator must have an equal number of expressions in their target lists. NOT IN, compares a single column from the outer query with a single column from subquery. In the following example, the subquery returns multiple columns Select * from TableA where Id NOT IN (Select Id, Name from TableB) Msg 116, Level 16, State 1, Line 2 Only one expression can be specified in the select list when the subquery is not introduced with EXISTS. In this video, I show you how to filter for a SQL null or empty string. It can be difficult to filter a null because you can't simply compare with an equal sign. You have to use a special IS NULL clause to make the filter work. I also show you how to combine both the SQL Null and Empty String together in a special trick with the isnull SQL Server function. I use SQL Server 2012 to demonstrate the technique. 25:45
http://www.gcreddy.com/2017/06/sql-operators.html SQL Operators, Arithmetic Operators, Comparison Operators, Compound Operators, and Logical Operators. SQL Operators examples with SQL Where clause to form single and multiple Conditions. An operator is a reserved word or a character used primarily in an SQL statement's WHERE clause to perform operation(s., such as arithmetic, comparisons and Logical operations. Operators are used to specify conditions in an SQL statement and to serve as conjunctions for multiple conditions in a statement. Important Categories of SQL Operators are, 1. Arithmetic operators 2. Comparison operators 3. Logical operators Etc... ----------------------------- 1. Arithmetic Operators: Arithmetic operators can perform arithmetical operations on numeric operands involved. 2. Comparison Operators: A comparison (or relational. operator is a mathematical symbol which is used to compare between two values. Comparison operators are used in conditions that compare one expression with another. The result of a comparison can be TRUE, FALSE, or UNKNOWN (an operator that has one or two NULL expressions returns UNKNOWN.. 3. Logical operators: There are three Logical Operators namely, AND, OR, and NOT. These operators compare two conditions at a time to determine whether a row can be selected for the output. When retrieving data using a SELECT statement, You can use logical operators in the WHERE clause, which allows you to combine more than one condition.

A SELECT statement that uses WHERE column_name IS NOT EQUAL TO NULL returns zero rows even if there are nonnull values in column_name. When SET ANSI_NULLS is OFF, the Equals and Not Equal To comparison operators do not follow the ISO standard. Differences between ISNULL and NULLIF - sql server interview questions

07:48
Hi friends, in this session I am gonna discuss the differences between ISNULL and NULLIF. Both ISNULL and NULLIF are built in system functions in sql server. Lot of people get confused between these 2 system functions. Lets discuss about each of these system functions separately so that you will get better idea. 1st lets discuss about ISNULL. ISNULL: ISNUL is a system function which replaces NULL with the specified replacement value. The functionalityof ISNULL is : 1. 1st it will Evaluate the expression which is in parameter 1. 2. it will compare the evaluated expression with null. if the paramter 1 = NULL ? 3. If parameter1 is equal to null i.e., if parameter 1 is null, then isnull function returns replacement value. if parameter1is not NULL, then ISNULL function returns parameter1 I hope we are clear on ISNULL. Lets move on to the next system function, that is NULLIF. NULLIF: NULLIF is a system function which returns a null value if the two specified expressions are equal. The functionalityof NULLIF is : 1. 1st it will Evaluate both the expression which are in parameter 1 and parameter 2. 2. next it will compare both the evaluated expressions with null. 3. If both the expressions are equal, the nullif functions returns NULL. 4. If both the expressions are not equal, the nullif functions returns 1st expression. Lets conclude the discussion with the similarities and differences between ISNULL and NULLIF Similarities: Both ISNULL and NULLIF are system functions. Syntax for Both the functions are similar Both ISNULL and NULLIF functions accepts 2 input parameters. Differences: isnull function compares 1st parameter with null.where as nullif function compares 1st parameter with 2nd parameter ISNULL function returns 2nd paramter if the 1st parameter isnull. nullif function returns null is 1st parameter = 2nd paramter. ISNULL function returns 1st paramter if the 1st parameter is not null. nullif function returns 1st paramter if 1st parameter is not equal to 2nd paramter. Thanks for watching this video. Bye , Have a good Day

SQL Date Comparison - How to filter Datetime in SQL Server - SQL Training Online

08:41
http://www.sqltrainingonline.com SQL Date Comparison - How to filter Datetime in SQL Server - SQL Training Online In this video, I show you how to do a SQL Date Comparison in SQL Server when your Datetime has an actual time in it. I also include the latest trick that will make this easier if you are using SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2012. How do you compare a Datetime in SQL Server? A SQL Datetime stores both Date and Time. So when you are filtering using the SQL Where clause, you have to know if you Datetime is storing the time also. Let's take a look at the employee table in SQL Training Online Simple DB The column we are looking at is the hire date. I want to go after the person who was hired on February, 22 2005. So, I use the following SQL. select * from employee where hire_date='02/22/2005' Now, this works because we don't have any times stored in this column. But, if I change the record from 2005-02-22 00:00:00.000 to 2005-02-22 08:22:25.000 and rerun the query, you see that I don't get any results. That is because the value of 02/22/2005 is really 2005-02-22 00:00:00.000 and I just changed the hire_date to include a time other than 00:00:00.000. So, I have to tweak my query to use a greater than and less than sign. This works. But, to really understand what is going on, let me show you what SQL Server really sees. There are other ways, and in this StackOverflow article you can read more about these other ways. But, I want to point out a few. If you are working in SQL Server 2005 or earlier, the following is supposed to be the fastest performing way to do this. select datediff(dd,0, hire_date),* from employee where dateadd(dd,0, datediff(dd,0, hire_date)) = '2005-02-22' But, if you are working in SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2012, they have introduced an actual Date datatype that doesn't include the Time portion. Since this is the case, you can use the CAST function to remove the time from the Datetime. Here is the SQL to do that. select * from employee where CAST(hire_date AS Date) = '2005-02-22' And that's it. If you enjoy the video, please give it a like, comment, or subscribe to my channel. Select Id, Name, Gender from TableB EXCEPT Select Id, Name, Gender from TableA For all these 3 operators to work the following 2 conditions must be met The number and the order of the columns must be same in both the queries The data types must be same or at least compatible For example, if the number of columns are different, you will get the following error Msg 205, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 All queries combined using a UNION, INTERSECT or EXCEPT operator must have an equal number of expressions in their target lists. If the interviewer has not mentioned not to use LIKE operator, we would have written the query using the LIKE operator as shown below. SELECT * FROM Students WHERE Name LIKE 'M%' We can use any one of the following 3 SQL Server functions, to achieve exactly the same thing. CHARINDEX LEFT SUBSTRING The following 3 queries retrieve all student rows whose Name starts with letter 'M'. Notice none of the queries are using the LIKE operator. SELECT * FROM Students WHERE CHARINDEX('M',Name) = 1 SELECT * FROM Students WHERE LEFT(Name, 1) = 'M' SELECT * FROM Students WHERE SUBSTRING(Name, 1, 1) = 'M'

Should I Learn Oracle or MySQL?

02:20
Should I learn Oracle or MySQL? MySQL is a popular open source database, but Oracle seems like the default database I see in use. Oracle is more expensive to implement and to train in. The certifications are like Microsoft's examinations, in that the classes and tests cost more. Then I need to go with MySQL. Not so fast. Popular should equal more job opportunities. MySQL has stronger database authentication based on the person's location. However, Oracle has corporate support to assist you with any problems you have. Which database do you think is better? Oracle does have a number of superior database management tools like rman, dataguard, internal job scheduling and queues. Oracle also has a more mature stored procedure language compared to MySQL. Stored procedures make it a lot easier to add verification logic and corrections to your database, instead of reprogramming the application that relies on the database. MySQL originally didn't have stored procedures or the rich programming environment Oracle did. However, MySQL is catching up. I know that a lot of companies like Oracle's hot backups so that restorations are faster in case of database failure, and the Real Application Clusters that lets your users search several servers at once is a good value. All of that is why Oracle is so often used, especially by big companies. Where is MySQL used? MySQL is free to a lot of non-profits and non-commercial groups. So it is popular at small charities and schools. It sounds like I need to learn Oracle just to gain access to the higher paying jobs, since non-profits don't pay much. Or you could learn Microsoft SQL. I'm not that desperate. Oh, come on. You could manage Microsoft databases on Microsoft Windows servers if you learn Microsoft SQL. I'd rather work for minimum wage at a non-profit with MySQL than MSSQL.

The result is interpolated and might not be equal to any of the specific values in the column PERCENTILE_DISC - Computes a specific percentile for sorted values in an entire rowset or within distinct partitions of a rowset in SQL Server. It calculates the percentile based on a discrete distribution of the column values; the result is equal to a specific value in the column. These two analytic functions explained in this Video.
