Send datatable as parameter to stored procedure

09:27
how to pass datatable to stored procedure in c#.net pass datatable to stored procedure in sql server 2008 In this video we will discuss how to send datatable as parameter to stored procedure. This is continuation to Part 99. Please watch Part 99 from SQL Server tutorial before proceeding. In Part 99, we discussed creating a stored procedure that accepts a table as a parameter. In this video we will discuss how to pass a datatable from a web application to the SQL Server stored procedure. Here is what we want to do. 1. Design a webform to insert 5 employees at a time into the database table. 2. When "Insert Employees" button is clicked, retrieve the from data into a datatabe and then pass the datatable as a parameter to the stored procedure. 3. The stored procedure will then insert all the rows into the Employees table in the database. WebForm1.aspx.cs code using System; using System.Configuration; using System.Data; using System.Data.SqlClient; namespace Demo { public partial class WebForm1 : System.Web.UI.Page { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) {} private DataTable GetEmployeeData() { DataTable dt = new DataTable(); dt.Columns.Add("Id"); dt.Columns.Add("Name"); dt.Columns.Add("Gender"); dt.Rows.Add(txtId1.Text, txtName1.Text, txtGender1.Text); dt.Rows.Add(txtId2.Text, txtName2.Text, txtGender2.Text); dt.Rows.Add(txtId3.Text, txtName3.Text, txtGender3.Text); dt.Rows.Add(txtId4.Text, txtName4.Text, txtGender4.Text); dt.Rows.Add(txtId5.Text, txtName5.Text, txtGender5.Text); return dt; } protected void btnInsert_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { string cs = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["DBCS"].ConnectionString; using (SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(cs)) { SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("spInsertEmployees", con); cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; SqlParameter paramTVP = new SqlParameter() { ParameterName = "@EmpTableType", Value = GetEmployeeData() }; cmd.Parameters.Add(paramTVP); con.Open(); cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); con.Close(); } } protected void btnFillDummyData_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { txtId1.Text = "1"; txtId2.Text = "2"; txtId3.Text = "3"; txtId4.Text = "4"; txtId5.Text = "5"; txtName1.Text = "John"; txtName2.Text = "Mike"; txtName3.Text = "Sara"; txtName4.Text = "Pam"; txtName5.Text = "Todd"; txtGender1.Text = "Male"; txtGender2.Text = "Male"; txtGender3.Text = "Female"; txtGender4.Text = "Female"; txtGender5.Text = "Male"; } } Text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/09/send-datatable-as-parameter-to-stored.html Slides http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/09/send-datatable-as-parameter-to-stored_18.html All SQL Server Text Articles http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/p/free-sql-server-video-tutorials-for.html All SQL Server Slides http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/p/sql-server.html All Dot Net and SQL Server Tutorials in English https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?view=1&sort=dd All Dot Net and SQL Server Tutorials in Arabic https://www.youtube.com/c/KudvenkatArabic/playlists

Dynamic SQL vs Stored Procedure

Separating database logic from business logic 2. Network traffic 3. SQL Injection Attacks 4. Cached query plans reuse 5. Maintenance 6. Implementing flexible logic Separating database logic from business logic : Stored procedures allow us to keep database logic separate from business logic. The benefit of keeping database logic separate from the business logic is that, if there is an issue with the business logic you know you only have to check the application code. On the other hand if the issue is with the database logic, you will only have to check and modify the stored procedure. Another added benefit here is that, if you change the stored procedure there is no need to compile your application code and deploy it. Just modify the stored procedure and you are done. You will loose this benefit if you are composing your dynamic sql statements in client code, as you will have to change the application code if there is a bug. Changing the application code requires compilation, build and deployment. Network traffic : Stored procedures reduce network traffic as only the procedure name and a few parameters need to be sent over the network. With dynamic SQL, you will have to send your entire sql statement over the network. If the query is a complex one, with 50 to 60 lines, imagine the increased network traffic between the client application and the database server. SQL Injection Attacks : Stored procedures prevent SQL injection attacks. In general, dynamic SQL open doors for SQL injection attacks if not careful. However, even with dynamic SQL, we can prevent SQL injection attacks by using parameterised queries. In some cases where you need to pass a table name or a column name as a parameter, it is not possible to use parameterised queries with dynamic sql. In such cases use QUOTENAME() function to prevent SQL injection attacks. Cached query plans reuse : Stored procedures provide increased performance as cached query plans reusability increases. Even with dynamic SQL, if we use parameterised queries, cached query plan reusability increases, which in turn increases the performance. If you are not using parameterised queries, SQL Server auto-parameterisation feature can automatically detect parameter values and create parameterised queries which promotes query plan reusability and in turn performance. One important thing to keep in mind is that, from a performance standpoint OLTP queries benefit from cached query plan reuse. However, with OLAP systems as your data drifts and optimizer choices change, OLAP queries benefit from unique plans, so query plan reuse may not be desirable in this case for performance. Maintenance : With static SQL in a stored procedure, a syntax error is reported immediately so ease of writing is definitely one of the benefits of using a stored procedure. On the other hand if you have dynamic SQL in the stored procedure, and if there is a syntax error you wouldn't know it until you run it. Stored procedures with static SQL are also easy to maintain as you can use sp_depends procedure to check the dependencies on other SQL objects. For example, let's say you have a database with lot of tables, and you want to know if a certain table is referenced, because you are considering changing or dropping it. In this case using sp_depends TableName will let us know if it is referenced anywhere, so we can make changes without breaking anything. On the other hand if you are using dynamic sql in a stored procedure or sending it from a client, you loose this benefit. Implementing flexible logic : Sometimes, with stored procedures it is hard to implement flexible logic compared with dynamic SQL. For example, we want to implement a "Search" stored procedure with 20 or more filters. This stored procedure can get complex. To make things worse what if we want to specify conditions like AND, OR etc between these search filters. The stored procedure can get extremely large, complicated and difficult to maintain. One way to reduce the complexity is by using dynamic SQL. Depending on for which search filters the user has provided the values on the "Search Page", we build the WHERE clause dynamically at runtime, which can reduce complexity.

Dynamic SQL in Stored Procedure

In this video we will discuss, using dynamic sql in a stored procedure and it's implications from sql injection perspective. We will discuss performance implications of using dynamic sql in a stored procedure in a later video. We implemented this procedure in Part 139 of SQL Server tutorial. This stored procedure does not have any dynamic sql in it. It is all static sql and is immune to sql injection. Create Procedure spSearchEmployees @FirstName nvarchar(100) = NULL, @LastName nvarchar(100) = NULL, @Gender nvarchar(50) = NULL, @Salary int = NULL As Begin Select * from Employees where (FirstName = @FirstName OR @FirstName IS NULL) AND (LastName = @LastName OR @LastName IS NULL) AND (Gender = @Gender OR @Gender IS NULL) AND (Salary = @Salary OR @Salary IS NULL) End Go Whether you are creating your dynamic sql queries in a client application like ASP.NET web application or in a stored procedure, you should never ever concatenate user input values. Instead you should be using parameters. Notice in the following example, we are creating dynamic sql queries by concatenating parameter values, instead of using parameterized queries. This stored procedure is prone to SQL injection. Let's prove this by creating a "Search Page" that calls this procedure. Create Procedure spSearchEmployeesBadDynamicSQL @FirstName nvarchar(100) = NULL, @LastName nvarchar(100) = NULL, @Gender nvarchar(50) = NULL, @Salary int = NULL As Begin Declare @sql nvarchar(max) Set @sql = 'Select * from Employees where 1 = 1' if(@FirstName is not null) Set @sql = @sql + ' and FirstName=''' + @FirstName + '''' if(@LastName is not null) Set @sql = @sql + ' and LastName=''' + @LastName + '''' if(@Gender is not null) Set @sql = @sql + ' and Gender=''' + @Gender + '''' if(@Salary is not null) Set @sql = @sql + ' and Salary=''' + @Salary + '''' Execute sp_executesql @sql End Go Add a Web Page to the project that we have been working with in our previous video. Name it "DynamicSQLInStoredProcedure.aspx". Copy and paste the HTML and code available on my blog at the following link http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2017/04/dynamic-sql-in-stored-procedure.html At this point, run the application and type the following text in the "Firsname" text and click "Search" button. Notice "SalesDB" database is dropped. Our application is prone to SQL injection as we have implemented dynamic sql in our stored procedure by concatenating strings instead of using parameters. ' Drop database SalesDB -- In the following stored procedure we have implemented dynamic sql by using parameters, so this is not prone to sql injecttion. This is an example for good dynamic sql implementation. Create Procedure spSearchEmployeesGoodDynamicSQL @FirstName nvarchar(100) = NULL, @LastName nvarchar(100) = NULL, @Gender nvarchar(50) = NULL, @Salary int = NULL As Begin Declare @sql nvarchar(max) Declare @sqlParams nvarchar(max) Set @sql = 'Select * from Employees where 1 = 1' if(@FirstName is not null) Set @sql = @sql + ' and [email protected]' if(@LastName is not null) Set @sql = @sql + ' and [email protected]' if(@Gender is not null) Set @sql = @sql + ' and [email protected]' if(@Salary is not null) Set @sql = @sql + ' and [email protected]' Execute sp_executesql @sql, N'@FN nvarchar(50), @LN nvarchar(50), @Gen nvarchar(50), @sal int', @[email protected], @[email protected], @[email protected], @[email protected] End Go On the code-behind page, use stored procedure spSearchEmployeesGoodDynamicSQL instead of spSearchEmployeesBadDynamicSQL. We do not have to change any other code. At this point run the application one more time and type the following text in the "Firstname" textbox and click the "Search" button. ' Drop database SalesDB -- Notice "SalesDB" database is not dropped, So in this case our application is not succeptible to SQL injection attack. Summary : Whether you are creating dynamic sql in a client application (like a web application) or in a stored procedure always use parameters instead of concatnating strings. Using parameters to create dynamic sql statements prevents sql injection.

Instantiate a new MySQLCursor object from the MySQLConnection object by calling the cursor() method. Call  callproc() method of the MySQLCursor object. You pass the stored procedure’s name as the first argument of the  callproc() method. If the stored procedure requires parameters, you need to pass a list as the second argument to the  callproc() method. In case the stored procedure returns a result set, you can invoke the  stored_results() method of the MySQLCursor object to get a list iterator and iterate this result set by using the  fetchall() method. Close the cursor and database connection as always. Example : db_config = read_db_config() conn = MySQLConnection(**db_config) cursor = conn.cursor() cursor.callproc('find_all') Sample Projects : https://github.com/SadaLearningHub1/Python3-Core-And-Advanced-Examples

Dynamic sql table name variable

This is one of the sql questions that is very commonly asked. I have a web page with a textbox. When I enter a table name in the textbox and when I click "Load Data" button, we want to retrieve data from that respective table and display it on the page. Copy the SQL Script to create the tables from my blog using the link below http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2017/04/dynamic-sql-table-name-variable.html Create the following stored procedure. Notice we are passing table name as a parameter to the stored prcoedure. In the body of the stored procedure we are concatenating strings to build our dynamic sql statement. In our previous videos we discussed that this open doors for SQL injection. Create procedure spDynamicTableName @TableName nvarchar(100) As Begin Declare @sql nvarchar(max) Set @sql = 'Select * from ' + @TableName Execute sp_executesql @sql End So the obvious question that comes to our mind is, why are we not creating parameterised sql statement instead. The answers is we can't. SQL Server does not allow table names and column names to be passed as parameters. Notice in the example below, we are creating a parameterised query with @TabName as a parameter. When we execute the following code, the procedure gets created successfully. Create procedure spDynamicTableName1 @TableName nvarchar(100) As Begin Declare @sql nvarchar(max) Set @sql = 'Select * from @TabName' Execute sp_executesql @sql, N'@TabName nvarchar(100)', @TabName = @TableName End But when we try to execute it we get an error - Must declare the table variable "@TabName" Execute spDynamicTableName1 N'Countries' Add a Web Page to the project that we have been working with in our previous video. Name it "DynamicTableName.aspx". Copy and paste the HTML from my blog using the link below http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2017/04/dynamic-sql-table-name-variable.html Copy and paste the code from my blog in the code-behind page http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2017/04/dynamic-sql-table-name-variable.html At this point, run the application and type the following text in the "Table Name" textbox and click "Load Data" button. Notice "SalesDB" database is dropped. Our application is prone to SQL injection as we have implemented dynamic sql in our stored procedure by concatenating strings instead of using parameters. Employees; Drop database SalesDB One way to prevent SQL injection in this case is by using SQL Server built-in function - QUOTENAME(). We will discuss QUOTENAME() function in detail in our next video. For now understand that by default, this function wraps that string that is passed to it in a pair of brackets. SELECT QUOTENAME('Employees') returns [Employees] Modify the stored procedure to use QUOTENAME() function as shown below. Alter procedure spDynamicTableName @TableName nvarchar(100) As Begin Declare @sql nvarchar(max) Set @sql = 'Select * from ' + QUOTENAME(@TableName) Execute sp_executesql @sql End At this point, type the following text in the "Table Name" textbox and click "Load Data" button. Notice you will see a message - Invalid object name 'Employees; Drop database SalesDB'. Also "SalesDB" database is not dropped. Employees; Drop database SalesDB The entire text in "Table Name" textbox is wrapped in a pair of brackets by the QUOTENAME function and is treated as table name. Since we do have a table with the specified name, we get the error - Invalid object name.

I'm always looking for new video ideas. Let me know what video you'd like for me to create. --- Transcript Time - 00:00 Hi, this is Chad (Shod) with luv2code.com. Welcome back to another tutorial on Java JDBC. In this video, we’ll learn how to use stored procedures. We’ll first define what stored procedures are, next we’ll use callable statements. Then we’ll learn how to pass parameters to stored procedures. I’ll actually break this up over 4 different videos. I’ll show each parameter type in a separate video, so in this section we’ll cover IN parameters and then in the follow on sections, I’ll cover IN OUT, OUT and also result sets. Please stay tuned and check out the following videos for this. Time - 00:39 A stored procedure is a group of SQL statements that perform a particular task. They are normally created by a DBA. The stored procedures are created in a SQL language that supported by the native database. Each database has its own language. For example, MySQL has stored procedures language, Oracle uses PL/SQL and Microsoft SQL Server uses Transact SQL. Finally, the stored procedures can also have any combination of input and output parameters. For this tutorial, we’ll use the following table employees. The table has sample data for testing. I have a SQL zip file that’s you can download. It will create the table, add sample data and also set up the stored procedures. You can download it from the link below. Time - 01:22 All right, let’s go and switch over to the MySQL workbench and what I’m going to do is open up that SQL file and run it. This is our JDBC stored procedures directory. I have a subdirectory called SQL, and has this file, table set up that SQL. I’ll open this file, what this file does it basically creates a table as we see here and then it goes through and inserts a lot of sample data. Then, it also goes through and creates all of the stored procedures that we need for this tutorial, right. I’ll just go ahead and select execute and this will run and so now should I have a new table over here called employees and this table also has a collection or this database has a collection of stored procedures for this tutorial series, so get count employees, greet and increase salaries and we’ll go through all these stored procedures during the actual tutorial itself. Time - 02:24 In JDBC, you make use of callable statements to make a call to the stored procedures. There is a special syntax to call stored procedures. You make use of curly braces inside of the string. You also make use of the JDBC keyword call and that’s followed by the name of the stored procedure. In this example, we’re not passing any params, so we’ll just use the open and closed parentheses. Finally, we execute the stored procedure. Let’s talk about the parameters on the next slide. The JDBC API support different types of parameters. You can make use of the IN parameter, INOUT and also the OUT. The stored procedures can also return a result set, during the code examples in this video, I’ll show you how to register different parameters types and also values. Time - 03:09 Let’s start with IN parameters. For this parameter, we’re only passing an input parameter and the parameter is read-only. Our DBA has created a stored procedure on the database. This stored procedure will increase the salary for everyone in the department, which is kind of cool. The procedure takes two parameters. The first parameter is the department name. The second parameter is the increase amount. For example, we can call this stored procedure and increase the salaries of employees in the engineering department by $10,000. In terms of Java coding, we need to make a call to the stored procedure. First, we prepare a callable statement, since the stored procedure takes two parameters, we’ll make use of our question mark place orders for the parameters. [snip] ... See Transcripts tab

DDL Triggers in sql server

12:31
ddl trigger example ddl trigger example in sql server ddl triggers can be used to In this video we will discuss DDL Triggers in sql server. In SQL Server there are 4 types of triggers 1. DML Triggers - Data Manipulation Language. Discussed in Parts 43 to 47 of SQL Server Tutorial. 2. DDL Triggers - Data Definition Language 3. CLR triggers - Common Language Runtime 4. Logon triggers What are DDL triggers DDL triggers fire in response to DDL events - CREATE, ALTER, and DROP (Table, Function, Index, Stored Procedure etc...). For the list of all DDL events please visit https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb522542.aspx Certain system stored procedures that perform DDL-like operations can also fire DDL triggers. Example - sp_rename system stored procedure What is the use of DDL triggers If you want to execute some code in response to a specific DDL event To prevent certain changes to your database schema Audit the changes that the users are making to the database structure Syntax for creating DDL trigger CREATE TRIGGER [Trigger_Name] ON [Scope (Server|Database)] FOR [EventType1, EventType2, EventType3, ...], AS BEGIN -- Trigger Body END DDL triggers scope : DDL triggers can be created in a specific database or at the server level. The following trigger will fire in response to CREATE_TABLE DDL event. Use SampleDB Go CREATE TRIGGER trMyFirstTrigger ON Database FOR CREATE_TABLE AS BEGIN Print 'New table created' END To check if the trigger has been created 1. In the Object Explorer window, expand the SampleDB database by clicking on the plus symbol. 2. Expand Programmability folder 3. Expand Database Triggers folder Please note : If you can't find the trigger that you just created, make sure to refresh the Database Triggers folder. When you execute the following code to create the table, the trigger will automatically fire and will print the message - New table created Create Table Test (Id int) The above trigger will be fired only for one DDL event CREATE_TABLE. If you want this trigger to be fired for multiple events, for example when you alter or drop a table, then separate the events using a comma as shown below. ALTER TRIGGER trMyFirstTrigger ON Database FOR CREATE_TABLE, ALTER_TABLE, DROP_TABLE AS BEGIN Print 'A table has just been created, modified or deleted' END Now if you create, alter or drop a table, the trigger will fire automatically and you will get the message - A table has just been created, modified or deleted. The 2 DDL triggers above execute some code in response to DDL events (CREATE_TABLE, ALTER_TABLE, DROP_TABLE). Now let us look at an example of how to prevent users from creating, altering or dropping tables. To do this modify the trigger as shown below. ALTER TRIGGER trMyFirstTrigger ON Database FOR CREATE_TABLE, ALTER_TABLE, DROP_TABLE AS BEGIN Rollback Print 'You cannot create, alter or drop a table' END To be able to create, alter or drop a table, you either have to disable or delete the trigger. To disable trigger 1. Right click on the trigger in object explorer and select "Disable" from the context menu 2. You can also disable the trigger using the following T-SQL command DISABLE TRIGGER trMyFirstTrigger ON DATABASE To enable trigger 1. Right click on the trigger in object explorer and select "Enable" from the context menu 2. You can also enable the trigger using the following T-SQL command ENABLE TRIGGER trMyFirstTrigger ON DATABASE To drop trigger 1. Right click on the trigger in object explorer and select "Delete" from the context menu 2. You can also drop the trigger using the following T-SQL command DROP TRIGGER trMyFirstTrigger ON DATABASE Certain system stored procedures that perform DDL-like operations can also fire DDL triggers. The following trigger will be fired when ever you rename a database object using sp_rename system stored procedure. CREATE TRIGGER trRenameTable ON DATABASE FOR RENAME AS BEGIN Print 'You just renamed something' END The following code changes the name of the TestTable to NewTestTable. When this code is executed, it will fire the trigger trRenameTable sp_rename 'TestTable', 'NewTestTable' The following code changes the name of the Id column in NewTestTable to NewId. When this code is executed, it will fire the trigger trRenameTable sp_rename 'NewTestTable.Id' , 'NewId', 'column' Text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/09/ddl-triggers-in-sql-server.html Slides http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/09/ddl-triggers-in-sql-server_9.html All SQL Server Text Articles http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/p/free-sql-server-video-tutorials-for.html All SQL Server Slides http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/p/sql-server.html All Dot Net and SQL Server Tutorials in English https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?view=1&sort=dd All Dot Net and SQL Server Tutorials in Arabic https://www.youtube.com/c/KudvenkatArabic/playlists

SQLPLUS: LineSize & PageSize

03:49
In this tutorial, you'll learn how to set linesize and pagesize . PL/SQL (Procedural Language/Structured Query Language) is Oracle Corporation's procedural extension for SQL and the Oracle relational database. PL/SQL is available in Oracle Database (since version 7), TimesTen in-memory database (since version 11.2.1), and IBM DB2 (since version 9.7).[1] Oracle Corporation usually extends PL/SQL functionality with each successive release of the Oracle Database. PL/SQL includes procedural language elements such as conditions and loops. It allows declaration of constants and variables, procedures and functions, types and variables of those types, and triggers. It can handle exceptions (runtime errors). Arrays are supported involving the use of PL/SQL collections. Implementations from version 8 of Oracle Database onwards have included features associated with object-orientation. One can create PL/SQL units such as procedures, functions, packages, types, and triggers, which are stored in the database for reuse by applications that use any of the Oracle Database programmatic interfaces. PL/SQL works analogously to the embedded procedural languages associated with other relational databases. For example, Sybase ASE and Microsoft SQL Server have Transact-SQL, PostgreSQL has PL/pgSQL (which emulates PL/SQL to an extent), and IBM DB2 includes SQL Procedural Language,[2] which conforms to the ISO SQL’s SQL/PSM standard. The designers of PL/SQL modeled its syntax on that of Ada. Both Ada and PL/SQL have Pascal as a common ancestor, and so PL/SQL also resembles Pascal in several aspects. However, the structure of a PL/SQL package does not resemble the basic Object Pascal program structure as implemented by a Borland Delphi or Free Pascal unit. Programmers can define public and private global data-types, constants and static variables in a PL/SQL package.[3] PL/SQL also allows for the definition of classes and instantiating these as objects in PL/SQL code. This resembles usage in object-oriented programming languages like Object Pascal, C++ and Java. PL/SQL refers to a class as an "Abstract Data Type" (ADT) or "User Defined Type" (UDT), and defines it as an Oracle SQL data-type as opposed to a PL/SQL user-defined type, allowing its use in both the Oracle SQL Engine and the Oracle PL/SQL engine. The constructor and methods of an Abstract Data Type are written in PL/SQL. The resulting Abstract Data Type can operate as an object class in PL/SQL. Such objects can also persist as column values in Oracle database tables. PL/SQL is fundamentally distinct from Transact-SQL, despite superficial similarities. Porting code from one to the other usually involves non-trivial work, not only due to the differences in the feature sets of the two languages,[4] but also due to the very significant differences in the way Oracle and SQL Server deal with concurrency and locking. There are software tools available that claim to facilitate porting including Oracle Translation Scratch Editor,[5] CEITON MSSQL/Oracle Compiler [6] and SwisSQL.[7] The StepSqlite product is a PL/SQL compiler for the popular small database SQLite. PL/SQL Program Unit A PL/SQL program unit is one of the following: PL/SQL anonymous block, procedure, function, package specification, package body, trigger, type specification, type body, library. Program units are the PL/SQL source code that is compiled, developed and ultimately executed on the database. The basic unit of a PL/SQL source program is the block, which groups together related declarations and statements. A PL/SQL block is defined by the keywords DECLARE, BEGIN, EXCEPTION, and END. These keywords divide the block into a declarative part, an executable part, and an exception-handling part. The declaration section is optional and may be used to define and initialize constants and variables. If a variable is not initialized then it defaults to NULL value. The optional exception-handling part is used to handle run time errors. Only the executable part is required. A block can have a label. Package Packages are groups of conceptually linked functions, procedures, variables, PL/SQL table and record TYPE statements, constants, cursors etc. The use of packages promotes re-use of code. Packages are composed of the package specification and an optional package body. The specification is the interface to the application; it declares the types, variables, constants, exceptions, cursors, and subprograms available. The body fully defines cursors and subprograms, and so implements the specification. Two advantages of packages are: Modular approach, encapsulation/hiding of business logic, security, performance improvement, re-usability. They support object-oriented programming features like function overloading and encapsulation. Using package variables one can declare session level (scoped) variables, since variables declared in the package specification have a session scope.

Table valued parameters in SQL Server

06:46
table valued parameters example send table variable to stored procedure pass table variable as parameter to stored procedure pass table variable to sql stored procedure In this video we will discuss table valued parameters in SQL Server. Table Valued Parameter is a new feature introduced in SQL SERVER 2008. Table Valued Parameter allows a table (i.e multiple rows of data) to be passed as a parameter to a stored procedure from T-SQL code or from an application. Prior to SQL SERVER 2008, it is not possible to pass a table variable as a parameter to a stored procedure. Let us understand how to pass multiple rows to a stored procedure using Table Valued Parameter with an example. We want to insert multiple rows into the following Employees table. SQL Script to create the Employees table Create Table Employees ( Id int primary key, Name nvarchar(50), Gender nvarchar(10) ) Go Step 1 : Create User-defined Table Type CREATE TYPE EmpTableType AS TABLE ( Id INT PRIMARY KEY, Name NVARCHAR(50), Gender NVARCHAR(10) ) Go Step 2 : Use the User-defined Table Type as a parameter in the stored procedure. Table valued parameters must be passed as read-only to stored procedures, functions etc. This means you cannot perform DML operations like INSERT, UPDATE or DELETE on a table-valued parameter in the body of a function, stored procedure etc. CREATE PROCEDURE spInsertEmployees @EmpTableType EmpTableType READONLY AS BEGIN INSERT INTO Employees SELECT * FROM @EmpTableType END Step 3 : Declare a table variable, insert the data and then pass the table variable as a parameter to the stored procedure. DECLARE @EmployeeTableType EmpTableType INSERT INTO @EmployeeTableType VALUES (1, 'Mark', 'Male') INSERT INTO @EmployeeTableType VALUES (2, 'Mary', 'Female') INSERT INTO @EmployeeTableType VALUES (3, 'John', 'Male') INSERT INTO @EmployeeTableType VALUES (4, 'Sara', 'Female') INSERT INTO @EmployeeTableType VALUES (5, 'Rob', 'Male') EXECUTE spInsertEmployees @EmployeeTableType That's it. Now select the data from Employees table and notice that all the rows of the table variable are inserted into the Employees table. In our next video, we will discuss how to pass table as a parameter to the stored procedure from an ADO.NET application Text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/09/table-valued-parameters-in-sql-server.html Slides http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/09/table-valued-parameters-in-sql-server_17.html All SQL Server Text Articles http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/p/free-sql-server-video-tutorials-for.html All SQL Server Slides http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/p/sql-server.html All Dot Net and SQL Server Tutorials in English https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?view=1&sort=dd All Dot Net and SQL Server Tutorials in Arabic https://www.youtube.com/c/KudvenkatArabic/playlists

How to Find if Table/View is used by Stored Procedure in SQL Server - SQL Server Interview Questions

06:44
In this video, we are going to learn how to find out if the table is used in a Stored Procedure. we have multiple ways to do that. This System Stored Procedure will return you list of table/views used by the Stored procedure/View. You can pass the view name or Stored Procedure as parameter,it will return you tables/views which are used in the object. One disadvantage of using sp_depends is , it will not show you tables/views which are not in current database. If you have used objects from other databases, this information might be misleading. --By using sp_depends, You can provide Stored Procedure Name or View name as parameter EXEC sp_depends '[dbo].[GetCustomer]' The 2nd method is to use the sys.sysdepends view with combination of sys.sysobjects to get the information. This also works the same way. It will not show you cross database objects ( Tables,Views) if have used in Stored Procedure or view definition. --Get Information from sys.sysdepends SELECT DISTINCT OBJECT_NAME(SD.id) AS StoredProcedureNameName, OB.name AS TableOrViewName FROM sys.sysdepends SDINNER JOIN sys.sysobjects O ON SD.id=O.id INNER JOIN sys.sysobjects OB ON SD.depid=OB.id AND O.xtype='P' 3rd method is to use the sys.all_sql_modules system view. The definition column of this view has definition of Stored Procedure, Views, Functions etc.You can write query as given below to check if any of the Stored Procedure or object is using the table/view you are looking for. --Use sys.all_sql_modules system view to get information if table is used --in a Stored Procedure SELECT OBJECT_NAME(OBJECT_ID),definition FROM sys.all_sql_modules WHERE definition LIKE '%vw_Employee%' Link to post: http://sqlage.blogspot.com/2015/02/how-to-find-if-tableview-is-used-in.html

There will be 2 inputs for the script Student Name - The name of the student who wants to enroll into a course Course Name - The name of the course the student wants to enroll into 2. If the student is already in the Students table, then use that existing Student Id. If the student is not already in the Students table, then a row for that student must be inserted into the Students table, and use that new student id. 3. Along the same lines, if the course is already in the Courses table, then use that existing Course Id. If the course is not already in the Courses table, then a row for that course must be inserted into the Courses table, and use that new course id. 4. There should be no duplicate student course enrollments, i.e a given student must not be enrolled in the same course twice. For example, Tom must not be enrolled in C# course twice. Answer : To avoid duplicate student course enrollments create a composite primary key on StudentId and CourseId columns in StudentCourses table. With this composite primary key in place, if someone tries to enroll the same student in the same course again we get violation of primary key constraint error. Alter table StudentCourses Add Constraint PK_StudentCourses Primary Key Clustered (CourseId, StudentId) Here is the SQL script that inserts data into the 3 tables as expected Declare @StudentName nvarchar(50) = 'Sam' Declare @CourseName nvarchar(50) = 'SQL Server' Declare @StudentId int Declare @CourseId int -- If the student already exists, use the existing student ID Select @StudentId = Id from Students where StudentName = @StudentName -- If the course already exists, use the existing course ID Select @CourseId = Id from Courses where CourseName = @CourseName -- If the student does not exist in the Students table If (@StudentId is null) Begin -- Insert the student Insert into Students values(@StudentName) -- Get the Id of the student Select @StudentId = SCOPE_IDENTITY() End -- If the course does not exist in the Courses table If (@CourseId is null) Begin -- Insert the course Insert into Courses values(@CourseName) -- Get the Id of the course Select @CourseId = SCOPE_IDENTITY() End -- Insert StudentId & CourseId in StudentCourses table Insert into StudentCourses values(@StudentId, @CourseId) If required, we can very easily convert this into a stored procedure as shown below. Create procedure spInsertIntoStudentCourses @StudentName nvarchar(50), @CourseName nvarchar(50) as Begin Declare @StudentId int Declare @CourseId int Select @StudentId = Id from Students where StudentName = @StudentName Select @CourseId = Id from Courses where CourseName = @CourseName If (@StudentId is null) Begin Insert into Students values(@StudentName) Select @StudentId = SCOPE_IDENTITY() End If (@CourseId is null) Begin Insert into Courses values(@CourseName) Select @CourseId = SCOPE_IDENTITY() End Insert into StudentCourses values(@StudentId, @CourseId) End Use the following statement to execute the stored procedure Execute spInsertIntoStudentCourses 'Tom','C#'

Step 1: Create and populate Employee table. Step 2: Create Insert, Update and Delete stored procedures Step 3: Create a new empty asp.net web application Step 4: Add a new ADO.NET Entity Data Model. a) On Choose Model Contents screen select "Generate from database" option and click Next b) On "Choose Your Data Connections" screen give a meaningful name for the connection string that will be stored in the web.config file. I have named it EmployeeDBContext. Click Next. c) On "Choose Your Database Objects" screen, select Employees Table and the 3 strored procedures (InsertEmployee, UpdateEmployee, DeleteEmployee). Provide a meaningful name for the Model namespace. I have named it EmployeeModel. CLick Finish. At this point on the ADO.NET Entity Model designer surface, we should be able to see the Employee entity but not the stored procedures. To view the stored procedures, 1. Right click on entity model designer surface and select "Model Broswer" from the context menu. 2. Expand Stored Procedures folder Step 5: Add a webform to the project. Drag and drop the following 3 controls and build the solution. 1. GridView 2. DetailsView 3. EntityDataSource Step 6: Configure EntityDataSource control a). Right click on EntityDataSource control and select "Show Smart Tag" option b) Click on Configure Data Source link c) Select EmployeeDBContext from the Named Connection dropdownlist and click Next d) Select the options on "Configure Data Selection" screen as shown in the video Step 7: Configure GridView control a). Right click on GridView control and select "Show Smart Tag" option b) Click on "Auto Format" link and select "Colourful" scheme c) Select "EntityDataSource1" from "Choose Data Source" dropdownlist d) Select Enable Editing and Enable Deleting checkboxes Step 8: Configure DetailsView control a) Right click on DetailsView control and select "Show Smart Tag" option b) Click on "Auto Format" link and select "Colourful" scheme c) Select "EntityDataSource1" from "Choose Data Source" dropdownlist d) Select Enable Inserting checkbox e) Set DeafultMode=Insert. Use properties window to set this. f) Set InsertVisible="false" for the ID BoundField. You can do this directly in the HTML Source. g) Generate ItemInserted event handler method for DetailsView control. Copy and paste the following code. protected void DetailsView1_ItemInserted(object sender, DetailsViewInsertedEventArgs e) { GridView1.DataBind(); } At this point if you run the application, and if you insert, update and delete employees, by default entity framework will use the sql it autogenerates and not our custom stored procedures. To tell the entity framework to use the stored procedures, we have to map them to the Employee entity. Here are the steps. 1. Right click on "Employee" entity on "EmployeeModel.edmx" and select "Stored Procedure Mapping" option from the context menu. 2. In the "Mapping Details" windows specify the Insert, Update and Delete stored procedures that you want to use with "Employee" entity At this point, 1. Run SQL Prrofiler 2. Run the application 3. Insert, Update and Delete Employee, and notice that the respective stored procedures are being called now.

By Andrew Gould https://www.wiseowl.co.uk - Stored Procedures are extremely useful tools in SQL Server, and they become even more powerful when you use parameters to pass information to them. This video teaches you how to define a list of parameters for a stored procedure and how to call a parameterised procedure and pass information to it. You'll also learn how to create optional parameters with default values, how to handle NULLs passed to a procedure and, finally, how to use your procedure in other applications such as Reporting Services. You can read a written version of this tutorial here: https://www.wiseowl.co.uk/blog/s263/parameters.htm You can download the script to create the Movies database used in this video at the following link: https://www.wiseowl.co.uk/files/execise-question-files/qf-898.zip You can see the range of resources and courses we offer in SQL Server here: https://www.wiseowl.co.uk/sql/ Visit www.wiseowl.co.uk for more online training resources in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Visio, SQL Server, Reporting Services, Analysis Services, Visual Studio, ASP.NET, VB.NET, C# and more!

Type and Run a SQL Query inside PowerApps

08:17
Update: be sure to scroll through the schema of your Response so that it does not have null values or the flow will not be accepted into PowerApps: https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/General-Discussion/Error-on-adding-a-flow-run-SQL-query-to-powerapps/m-p/119226#M42206 Here's a second way to return an array into PowerApps--arguably easier. Like the Split() method, "Request - Response" does not require any custom connectors. You can use this to type and run SQL queries from inside a PowerApp--your formulas are flexible this way!
