Vector Tiles with GeoServer and OpenLayers

41:07
by David Blasby The latest release of GeoServer adds support for creating Vector Tiles in GeoJSON, TopoJSON, and MapBox Vector Tiles format through its WMS service for all the vector data formats it supports. These tiles can be cached using GeoWebCache (built into GeoServer), and served with the various tiling protocols (TMS, WMTS, and WMS-C). Thanks to very recent OpenLayers 3 development, these Vector Tiles can be easily and efficiently styled on a map. This technical talk will look at how GeoServer makes Vector Tiles accessible through standard OGC services and how they differ from normal WMS and WFS usage. It will also look at how OpenLayers 3 - as a simple-to-use vector tiles client - interacts with GeoServer to retrieve tiles and effectively manage and style them. OpenLayer 3’s extensive style infrastructure will be investigated, as well as using PostGIS to prepare data for efficient tiling.

Angular 4 Tutorial - GPS Activity Mapping App

01:03:12
In this video, I build a simple GPS route mapping application using Angular 4. We'll use the Angular CLI to scaffold the project and then create custom Components and Services to build an application with a list of runs with calculated totals, and a detail view with a customized map containing a route loaded from GPX data . Link to code on GitHub: https://github.com/wesdoyle/ng-run-journal Check out my premium Angular + .NET Core Web API Premium Course at ProductiveDev: https://productivedev.com/product/ng-dashboard-net-core-api/ Get 15% off a Pro Membership subscription by using promo code 'DEV2017' at checkout. We'll use GPX File Format to plot routes - an XML schema for GPS data. If you need sample GPX data, you can find some here: http://www.wandermap.net/en/ Note that I'm using bash commands on the command line - for this, you'll need a terminal emulator like Bash on Ubuntu on Windows, Git for Windows, or Cmder. Post a link to your code if you make improvements - I may mention your repository in a future video! Some ideas for improvement: - Store and retrieve data from a back-end database service - Create functions to parse GPX data to calculate distance, elevation gain, etc. Dependencies: - Typescript - https://typescriptlang.org - Node.js - https://nodejs.org/en/ Third Party Libraries: - Leaflet - http://leafletjs.com/ - Mapbox - https://www.mapbox.com/api-documentation/#maps - Bootstrap 3 - http://getbootstrap.com/

Introduction To Leaflet JS | GeoJSON | Part 3 | Eduonix

14:07
Hi there, welcome back to 'Introduction to Leaflet JS' series. Did you have fun learning about Popups and Icons? Now let's begin with a new topic - GeoJSON! It is a popular data format which is very straightforward, simple and lightweight too. Leaflet is quite good at handling same. A GeoJSON object can be found in the form of a geometry or a feature. Let's learn more about it in today's class. QGIS 2.12 Data defined control over map layers and style presets -Map Composer

03:31
A new data defined control has been added for the map layers and style presets to show in a composer map. The map layers data defined expression should result in a | (pipe) delimited list of layer names which will be shown in the map, or the style preset data defined expression should result in the name of an existing style preset. Using this control over map layers allows for "layer-based" atlases, where the map layers should change between atlas pages instead of or in combination with the map extent changing. An example could be an atlas looping over different administrative units and at the same time looping over several historic maps or aerial images. http://changelog.qgis.org/qgis/version/2.12.0/ by Nyall Dawson

GEOlayers 2 Feature: Draw From Search

00:23
http://aescripts.com/geolayers/ GEOlayers 2 lets you browse and animate maps directly in After Effects. You can search Addresses and POIs, directly download geometries, draw them in your own styles to the map, label features, customize and create your own labels, import geospatial files, create 3D Landscapes with one click using Trapcode Mir 2 and much more! GEOlayers 2 connects After Effects to imagery tile servers for up-to-date maps. It also provides direct access to all kinds of geospatial features of the world. Like this you can easily draw buildings to AE shape layers, highlight certain country borders, streets, lakes, rivers, places, label regions, animate routes, extrude buildings... whatever you’ll need. It comes with 14 default server profiles each one representing a certain map style. All of them can be used for free! All you need to do is attribute the provider. GEOlayers also does this for you. Thats not all. You can add you own ones. Use the Universal API to connect to common imagebased tileservers or create a style in minutes with the Stamen Mapstack API. Mapbox is also fully supported. Get yourself an account there and bring all its advantages to After Effects.

Stephan Bösch-Plepelits: pgmapcss - Advanced Cartography for Mapnik

22:39
http://2014.sotm-eu.org/en/slots/6 pgmapcss combines MapCSS - a more or less standardized map description language - with Mapnik - a widely used map renderer for vector or bitmap maps. In contrast to other attempts at using CSS-like styling, the actual cartography process (evaluating which map features should be rendered in the current view and how) is moved into a database function (Using PL/Python3 in a PostgreSQL database). Mapnik just needs to read the final properties - e.g. geometry, widths, colors, texts, and so on. This database function is compiled by pgmapcss from the MapCSS style sheet. There are many advantages to this idea: * Writing MapCSS simplifies writing style sheets for Mapnik, as there's no longer a separation into database query and styling. Often those database queries were complex and required advanced knowledge of SQL. pgmapcss takes most of the complexity away. In addition, the actual database queries for map features are optimized for each zoom level. * MapCSS is powerful because map features can be related to each other (e.g. by relation membership or the proximity of objects). Furthermore calculations are possible (e.g. show the width of a line based on the value of a tag of the map feature). pgmapcss even offers geometric calculations (e.g. create lines between map features, rotation, buffers, ...). * As there are more than ten libraries which implement MapCSS, the language is available on different platforms and for different output media. Styles can be used with various libraries, although there are differences between dialects, but hopefully they will converge in the future. Homepage: https://github.com/plepe/pgmapcss
