Learn more about the SolarWinds THWACK community here http://bit.ly/TC2016_MonitorHardtoReach. Seasoned monitoring professionals find setting up most things to be simple (especially if you have SolarWinds). But there are a few applications, including Linux, Oracle, MySQL, and Java that delight in confounding. Maybe it's a perception of required hyper-specialization to master them. Maybe it's many version permutations. Or maybe it's just good old FUD. This session will help lessen your concerns. Join Head Geeks Leon Adata and Patrick Hubbard, along with Database Performance Evangelist Janis Griffin, as they shine a light on ways to monitor hard-to-reach application areas using the standard tools, techniques, and built-in commands already available. MySQL DBA Training 1 MySQL Architecture

25:15
Session 1: MySQL Architecture. To Learn or Teach Linux visit www.theskillpedia.com, A Marketplace for Learners and Trainers. www.hometutor.net.in. To know about me visit my profile at www.rnsangwan.com. I deliver online training on Business Analysis, Linux, Unix, MySQL, Sybase, SQL Server, Perl, Python, R Data Analysis, Scala etc. http://youtube.com/user/theskillpedia General RDBMS Architecture • It has three main components: • Application Layer • Logical Layer • Physical Layer MySQL Architecture Overview APPLICATION LAYER • Users and clients interacts with the MySQL RDBMS. • Three components: ◦ Administrators ◦ Clients ◦ Query Users • Query users interact with MySQL RDBMS using “mysql”. MySQL Architecture Overview LOGICAL LAYER • The logical layer of MySQL architecture is divided into various subsystems. ◦ Query Processor. ◦ Transaction Management. ◦ Recovery Management. ◦ Storage Management. • These sub systems work together to process the requests issued to the MySQL database server. Physical Layer Physical Layer • Data files, which store the user data in the database • Data dictionary, which stores metadata about the structure of the database Physical Layer  Database directories. Each database corresponds to a single directory.  Table format files (.frm files) that contain a description of table structure.  The InnoDB storage engine has its own tablespace and log files.  The default tablespace file is named ibdata1 and the default log files are named ib_logfile0 and ib_logfile1.  Server log files and status files. Physical Layer  A storage engine has a particular set of operational characteristics.  When you create a table, you can choose what storage engine to use. MySQL’s Logical Architecture ◦ Embedded DML Pre-compiler. ◦ DDL Compiler. ◦ Query Parser. ◦ Query Preprocessor. ◦ Security/Integration Manager. ◦ Query Optimizer. ◦ Execution Engine. • The output of one of the above component becomes the input for another. • Query processor layer is scalable and evolvable. Transaction Management • It facilitates concurrent data access. • Provides locking facility. • Ensures multiple users/sessions access data simultaneously in a consistent way. • Prevents data corruption or data damage. • Lock Manager is the sub component name that handles locking. Recovery Management • Log Manager ◦ Logs every operation executed in the database. ◦ Stores the operations logs as MySQL Commands. • Recovery Manager ◦ Responsible for recovering the database to its last stable state. ◦ Uses the logs created by the log manager. Memory Management • Buffer Manager ◦ It allocated memory resources. • Resource Manager ◦ Accepts the requests from execution engine. ◦ Requests the details from buffer manager. ◦ It actually receives references of data with memory from buffer manager. ◦ Returns this data to the upper layer. MySQL Concepts: InnoDB  It supports row-level locking.  Foreign key referential-integrity constraint can be defined.  Table can extend to any size even beyond 2 GB and power loss recovery is fast.  The InnoDB stores user data in clustered indexes  This reduces I/O for common queries based on primary keys  InnoDB should be used for applications requiring the data integrity.  MyISAM is the improved version of the original storage engine of MySQL, ISAM  After MySQL 3.23, MyISAM replaced ISAM as the default storage engine.  It is also used for data warehousing  The size of MyISAM table depends on the host operating system  The foreign key constraint cannot be defined  MyISAM is the only storage engine that supports Full-text search  It also supports one auto increment column per table  A high-byte-first pattern for saving numeric key values ensures faster indexing  It can be used where fulltext indexing is needed Communication Protocols  A MySQL client program can connect to a server running on the same machine or another machine.  MySQL supports connections between clients and the server using several networking protocols.  Some protocols are applicable for connecting to either local or remote servers. Others can be used only for local servers. Visit www.rnsangwan.com

Running MySQL on Kubernetes [I] - Patrick Galbraith, Consultant

34:44
Running MySQL on Kubernetes [I] - Patrick Galbraith, Consultant MySQL is the world's most popular open source database and there are a number of ways to run it on Kubernetes. This talk will cover each type of MySQL deployment strategy starting from a simple MySQL pod, to a asynchronous replicated master-slave, synchronous Galera cluster, and on to a Vitess clustering system which allows for horizontal scaling of MySQL and innately has built-in sharding, explaining how each is deployed, what features are available, and what type of application they lend themselves to. About Patrick Galbraith Patrick Galbraith has been involved in MySQL, Linux, and other Open Source (OSS) projects back to the early days of Slackware. He has worked broad spectrum of companies throughout his career, including Slashdot, MySQL, Blue Gecko, Hewlett-Packard, and landing recently at Dyn, an Oracle business. During his tenure in Hewlett-Packard's Advanced Technology Group (ATG) for Cloud and Open Source, Patrick had a focus on containerization with emphasis on Kubernetes; this focus, like all ATG endeavors, included participation in the associated OSS communities. Patrick has a keen, and long-standing interest in the effective marriage databases and Kubernetes with a bent toward MySQL. To this end, Patrick's "Galera Cluster for MySQL on Kubernetes" demonstration is a deep-rooted passion of his. Join us for KubeCon + CloudNativeCon in Barcelona May 20 - 23, Shanghai June 24 - 26, and San Diego November 18 - 21! Learn more at https://kubecon.io. The conference features presentations from developers and end users of Kubernetes, Prometheus, Envoy and all of the other CNCF-hosted projects.

Easy MySQL server performance tuning for everyone [linux.conf.au 2014]

44:25
Easy MySQL server performance tuning for everyone — why 8MB is not enough and 256KB definitely is http://www.lathiat.net/ MySQL is the most popular database on the web, many people are running it on applications ranging from single user test servers to sites fielding hundreds of millions of users. There are many tuning parameters that can be adjusted to suit different workloads and server specifications, the default values are often not optimal and can easily be adjusted for big improvements in performance even on basic systems. People also often catch wind of tuning MySQL settings and start setting them as big as possible to values that make no sense and absolutely ruin their server performance in the process. I will take you through a high level overview of MySQL's configuration parameters, discuss what the settings mean, which ones you should change, why to change them and how to determine the optimum values. We will also review common traps to avoid and explore why they can ruin your server performance when set incorrectly. Trent Lloyd (www.lathiat.net) Trent Lloyd has been a Senior Technical Support Engineer for MySQL in the Customer Support Team for over 6 years at Oracle Australia (previously MySQL AB and Sun Microsystems). He solves problems with MySQL systems day in, day out dealing with issues such as server installation, upgrades, corruption, performance, query tuning and general linux systems administration. He is an active and enthusiastic member of the free software community, having also been on the development team for Avahi — a mDNS/DNS-SD service discovery stack for Linux and attended/spoken at many past conferences including linux.conf.au and GUADEC. by Trent Lloyd http://lca2014.linux.org.au/staticschedule/trent-mysql

Tungsten University: Replicate Between MySQL And Oracle

01:07:21
Oracle is the most powerful DBMS in the world. However, Oracle's expensive and complex replication makes it difficult to build highly available applications or move data in real-time to data warehouses and popular databases like MySQL. In this webinar you learn how Continuent Tungsten solves problems with Oracle replication at a fraction of the cost of other solutions and with less management overhead too -- picture Oracle GoldenGate without the price tag! We demo constructing a highly available site using Oracle-to-Oracle replication. We then show you how to replicate data in real time from Oracle to MySQL as well as load a data warehouse.
