1in6 is a non-profit organization serving men who were sexually abused or assaulted.
Experts estimate that at least 1 in 6 men have had an unwanted or abusive sexual experience. On average, it takes a man 22 years to publicly disclose his abuse. In that time, his wounds can evolve into any number of issues, some of which are life-threatening.
But it doesn’t have to be this way. If we continue the cultural conversation about men’s mental health and needs, we can dismantle conventional demands on men and shift the paradigm toward recognizing men as survivors, not just perpetrators or bystanders.
Let’s continue to work through the social stigma, allowing male survivors of sexual abuse to be seen, and giving them the help they need.
The issue of sexual abuse affects #MenToo.
