This one's from Abul, "Neil Patel I have a Shopify store. "But I don't know which things "I should write a blog, "and which things I should make videos?" But really, I think everyone wants your opinion on Shopify in general. Let's discuss how to grow your Shopify store using content marketing. The question is really about video or text-based content. The answer: What are you comfortable with? For example, Adam here prefers video. For me, I'm better at content marketing than video. I'm doing okay with video. But I've been doing content marketing for over ten years. I'm getting better and better at video, but I started with content marketing. I have way more experience. In general, you want to look at what you think you're naturally better at and focus on that. It could be video. It could be audio. It could be text-based content marketing. You pick. It could even be visual infographics. With your Shopify store, ideally, most of you guys are like, "Oh, what kind of products should we sell? "How many?" You should start off with one product. You don't need tons and tons of products to do well on Shopify. Start off with one. I'm not saying you can't add more products later on. You want upsells and down sells. A lot of people us Zipify. That will help get you more upsells when you already have products. If you're selling insoles for high heels, your upsell could be to buy three of them at a discount. The point is to start with one product, focus on it and create your blog and content marketing around that one product. Go to buzzsumo.com. Type in keywords within your industry. You'll see what's hot. But instead of just creating text-based content. Try to create infographics. You can go to Dribbble, dribbble.com or 99designs. There you can find people to create infographics for a few hundred dollars. Maybe even $50 depending on the country. Create these infographics then go to buzzsumo.com, find out all the people who wrote similar content. You're now creating visual content. Instead of the text-based. You're hitting up all the people who shared that text-based content by clicking up view shares on Buzzsumo. It gives you a list. Do the same thing with Ahrefs. You go to Ahrefs. You put in the original article. You see who links to it. Then you contact them and say: "Hey Adam, I noticed you linked to this article that breaks down what happens to your feet after you walk in high heels for a year. I created a similar article, but mine's visual in an infographic format. Feel free, to check it out here. If you think your audience will love it, feel free embed it within your article." If you don't know how to embed your infographic, there are plugins that allow you to embed it with ease. I don't know what plugins work for Shopify. I know for Wordpress I use WP's Embed Code Generator. You do that, people embed it, and you'll get more links and social shares. In general, you should also get more E-commerce sales. Foundr Magazine EP155: Everything You Know About Content Marketing is Wrong, with Des Traynor of Intercom In 2011, four lads from Dublin were running a successful business that let programers and engineers know when a user encountered a problem with their program. The problem was that none of them were particularly interested in the world of programming errors. Instead, they found their passions centered on why it was so difficult for online businesses to talk to customers. They didn’t know it at the time, but they were about to reinvent the concept of content marketing. So Des Traynor and his three co-founders sold their successful business, packed their bags, and moved to sunny California. “We were four Irish founders and basically our previous company, we had already done the bootstrapping thing. … When we were going through this change of business and this change of approach, we said, ‘What’s the opposite of running a bootstrapped business off the north side of Dublin?’ Well that’s come to Silicon Valley and raise a million dollars, and that’s what we did,” Traynor says. It turned out to be the right move, as the company that now known as Intercom raised more than $160 million in the past six years, building a customer base of over 17,000 customers, and making over $50 million in revenue. Their mission was simple: to make online businesses feel less like talking to a robot and feel more personal instead. The solution to that was to help businesses talk to their customers through their own websites and apps instead of the usual mish-mash of emails, texts, and phone calls. Intercom built its reputation and customer base through the power of content marketing, but in a way that might surprise you. Instead of following the traditional strategy of hiring a content team, focusing on SEO and backlinks, and churning out at as much content as possible, Intercom went in the completely opposite direction and developed a unique content strategy that led their business to go viral within the startup community, while building a beloved brand. “We’re not one of those people that do all that black hat stuff. I really, really hate that. We had a recommendation recently to go post on discussions.apple.com and write a piece that links back to your site, and it was just so puke-worthy. I could never get excited about gamifying the Google algorithm and building the business on such a messy, fragile house of cards,” Traynor says. If there is no content worth reading or viewing on the site, then you cannot drive traffic to your site, much less keep them there. As the more popular saying goes these days, “Content is King”. But you cannot just create content for its own sake, but relevant content. In truth, the hard part of successful digital marketing isn’t drawing an initial amount of attention to a website, but to keep people coming back. Man hört und liest immer wieder über Content Marketing – aber was ist damit eigentlich gemeint? Was ist „Marketing mit Inhalten“ und wie unterscheidet es sich von klassischer Werbung? Generell wird der Begriff für Inhalte genutzt, die nicht vordergründig Marketing sind. Vielmehr wollen die Unternehmen und Insitutionen mit informierenden oder unterhaltenden Inhalten erst einmal nur die gewünschte Zielgruppe erreichen, ohne sofort etwas verkaufen zu wollen. Es wird also in der Regel kein Produkt oder anderes Angebot angepriesen. Vielmehr schafft man nützliche oder generell beachtenswerte Inhalte im eigenen Themenbereich. Die Idee dahinter ist es, auf diese Weise langfristig auf sich aufmerksam zu machen – die eigene Marke zu stärken, ein positives Image aufzubauen und erst in einem späteren Schritt auf die eigenen Produkte, Dienstleistungen und Angebote zu verweisen. Vielleicht sucht der Kunde sogar selbst danach, gerade weil eben nicht alle naslang darauf hingewiesen wird. Eine Schwierigkeit besteht in der Messbarkeit des Erfolgs solcher Maßnahmen. Im klassischen Marketing geht es doch nahezu immer darum, wie viel man womit erreicht. Content Marketing ist hier nebulöser, weil indirekter und langfristiger angelegt. Im Grunde kann man Content Marketing als eine Form des Corporate Publishing ansehen. Manche würden die Begriffe auch als Synonyme verwenden. Corporate Publishing ist allerdings alles andere als neu. Warum erlebt es nun unter dem Namen Content Marketing einen Hype? Das liegt an den neuen Möglichkeiten des Digitalen. Denn während es beim Corporate Publishing oftmals vor allem um Kundenzeitschriften geht, kann man mit Inhalten im Netz eben auch Neukunden gewinnen. Gut gemachte Inhalte können bei Google vorn landen und so Nutzer auf die Seite ziehen. Gute Inhalte können die Seite generell bei Google im Ansehen anheben und so wiederum mehr Nutzer anziehen. Gute Inhalte können sich im Social Web verbreiten. Gewarnt wird vor dem Content Shock: Die Aufmerksamkeit der Nutzer ist nun einmal begrenzt. Wenn nun jeder anfängt im großen Stil online zu publizieren, wird man es immer schwerer haben, gehört zu werden. Ein Ausweg, den Fachleute hier sehen: auf Qualität setzen. Hochwertig umgesetzte Inhalte werden hier als wichtiges Element angesehen.
