The 10 Brightest Celebrities In Hollywood
Who are the Smartest Celebrities in Hollywood? Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg Description: Education has become a valued, albeit expensive necessity that one partakes in order to be more desirable on the job market. Meaning you go to school so you can get a better job and make more money. Rarely is going to school for just the education happening anymore. When it comes to being a celebrity, there is a stigma that you’re not that bright. Perhaps the inspiration behind the stereotype comes from the fact that there have been numerous stars in the past who headed to Hollywood as soon as they graduated high school to make it big. There is also the stereotype that there isn’t a lot of intelligence required to be an actor, which simply isn’t true. The fact of the matter is, there are quite a few brilliant celebrities who grace the red carpet on the regular basis. In fact, you can even get a Master’s degree in acting, since the craft does require a decent skill set. Meryl Streep holds a Master of Fine Arts in acting from Yale University. So, this is by no means, a sham degree at all. Given that Streep has had one of the most successful careers in the industry today, that advanced degree probably did her a lot of good training wise. But what makes a celebrity more brilliant above the rest? Graduating from high school is one thing, but to balance a career plus going to school gives one major props. While many celebrities got their degrees before they made it big, there’s a good number that decided to go to school after they became a household name. This is quite admirable, as they went to school primarily for the purpose of learning more, not just getting the degree for a job prospect. For example, Mayim Bialik, who plays Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler on “The Big Bang Theory” has her PhD degree in neuroscience, which she pursued after her time on Blossom was over. Acting skills aside, many of Hollywood’s hottest celebrities are not only exceptionally beautiful, but they are also quite smart. Many of time hold multiple degrees, such as James Franco, who holds degrees from schools such as UCLA, Columbia, and NYU. Franco has even taught a few college courses himself ranging from English literature to film studies. Imagine walking into your classroom and seeing an A-list celebrity! There are some celebrities who even used to be medical doctors, such as Ken Jeong, who rose to fame after the smash hit, “The Hangover.” He went to medical school and is a licensed obstetrician. On this list, we have Kate Beckinsale, Jennifer Connelly, Edward Norton, David Duchovny, James Woods, Dolph Lundgren, Tommy Lee Jones, and Natalie Portman. Celebs like Jennifer and Natalie speak multiple languages and pursued their degrees after they made it big. Then you have James Woods who made the decision to pursue acting later in life, after he had gotten his education. In closing, if you’re wanting to be like a celebrity, then maybe instead of getting makeovers and going shopping, you should be hitting the books instead! Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheRichest.org Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheRichest_Com Instagram: http://instagram.com/therichest ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Featuring: Kate Beckinsale James Franco Jennifer Connelly Edward Norton David Duchovny James Woods Dolph Lundgren Ken Jeong Tommy Lee Jones Natalie Portman ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.therichest.com/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Haile Gerima - Outsider Hollywood: Social Activism and Cinematic Art | The New School
The New School ( http://www.newschool.edu) for Media Studies (http://www.newschool.edu/mediastudies) presents a retrospective Film Screenings of Haile Gerima. Outsider Hollywood: Social Activism and Cinematic Art. Established by a bequest from the late Dorothy Hirshon, a trustee of The New School for 61 years, this annual event promotes excellence and education in the filmmaking arts. The theme of the eighth Hirshon Film Festival is working outside the Hollywood system while creating socially conscious, cinematic film. Called one of the independent cinemas chief chroniclers of the African-American and African Diaspora[n] experience[s], by Variety, Haile Gerima is a distinguished independent filmmaker who has served as a professor of Film at Howard University in Washington, DC, since 1975. Haile is perhaps best known as the writer, producer, and director of the acclaimed 1993 film Sankofa, which the New York Times called poetic and precisely detailed. The film, a historically inspired dramatic tale of African resistance to slavery, has won international acclaim including first prize at the African Film Festival in Milan, Italy; Best Cinematography at Africas premier Festival of Pan African Countries (FESPACO); and a nomination for the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film festival. In addition, the film captured the imagination of huge audiences across the United States. In doing so, it defied the notion that signing with mainstream distributors was the only option for filmmakers wanting to reach a wide audience. Guided by an independent philosophy, Gerima practiced an innovative strategy in distribution whose success remains unprecedented in African-American film history. Gerimas earlier works include the films Harvest: 3000 Years, which Martin Scorsese described as having, a particular kind of urgency which few pictures possess; and Bush Mama. Gerima is releasing his eleventh cinematic production and seventh dramatic film, TEZA, which means morning dew in Amharic. The film tells a story of hope, loss, and reminiscence through the eyes of an idealistic young intellectual who has been displaced for many years from his homeland of Ethiopia. Reflecting on the effects of the fall of Emperor Haile Selassie on Ethiopias history and society, TEZA also focuses through a wider lens on the ways political upheaval and social change have impacted cultures and nations across the African Diaspora. Due to the discourse on critical issues it engenders and its exquisite visual tableau, TEZA is an unparalleled work of social activism and cinematic art. This years director-in-residence is producer, director, and writer Haile Gerima. He introduces a retrospective of his work. A panel discussion with Gerima, author and journalist Jill Nelson, cultural critic and Eugene Lang College faculty Margo Jefferson; moderated by Media Studies and Film assistant professor Michelle Materre follows the screening. The evening concludes with a reception. April 23, 2010
