FreeCodeCamp Tutorial + Answers #15: Specify How Fonts Should Degrade - HTML/CSS

00:59
CODE USED IN THIS VIDEO: https://github.com/aviknigam/FreeCodeCamp/blob/master/Front-End-Development-Certification/15-Specify-how-Fonts-Should-Degrade.html This course is for the absolute beginner so feel free to subscribe and watch along. ---------- THEORY: There are several default fonts that are available in all browsers. These include Monospace, Serif and Sans-Serif When one font isn't available, you can tell the browser to "degrade" to another font. For example, if you wanted an element to use the Helvetica font, but also degrade to the Sans-Serif font when Helvetica wasn't available, you could use this CSS style: p { font-family: Helvetica, Sans-Serif; } In this video we comment out your call to Google Fonts, so that we can see what happens when the Lobster font isn't available. Notice how it degrades to the Monospace font. ----------- Follow me on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/aviknigam/ Follow me on Twitter https://twitter.com/aviknigam Remember to Like this video + Subscribe to my channel. The following are the different options available to style this "employee component" Option 1: Specify the following table and td styles in external stylesheet - styles.css table { color: #369; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large; border-collapse: collapse; } td { border: 1px solid black; } Advantages : 1. Visual Studio editor features (Intellisense, Code completion & formatting) are available. 2. Application maintenance is also easy as we only have to change the styles in one place if we need to change them for any reason. Disadvantages : 1. The Stylesheet that contains the styles must be referenced for the component to be reused. 2. Since styles.css is referenced in index.html page, these styles may affect the table and td elements in other components, and you may or may not want this behaviour. Option 2 : Specify the styles inline in the component HTML file as shown below.

First Name {{firstName}}

Last Name {{lastName}}

Gender {{gender}}

Age {{age}}

Advantages : 1. Visual Studio editor features (Intellisense, Code completion & formatting) are available. 2. Component can be easily reused as the styles are defined inline 3. Styles specified using this approach are local to the component and don't collide with styles used elsewhere in the application. Disadvantages : 1. Application maintenance is difficult. For example, if we want to change the border colour to red we have to change it in several places. Option 3 : Specify the styles in the component html file using [style] tag as shown below [style] table { color: #369; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large; border-collapse: collapse; } td { border: 1px solid black; } [/style]

First Name {{firstName}}

Last Name {{lastName}}

Gender {{gender}}

Age {{age}}

Advantages : 1. Component can be easily reused as the styles are defined inline with in the component itself 2. Application maintenance is also easy as we only have to change the styles in one place 3. Visual Studio editor features (Intellisense, Code completion & formatting) are available 4. Styles specified using this approach are local to the component and don't collide with styles used elsewhere in the application. Option 4 : Specify the styles in the component TypeScript file using the @component decorator styles property as shown below. Notice the styles property takes an array of strings containing your styles.

CSS Tutorial — How to use Fonts (12/13)

04:41
CSS Tutorial — How to use Fonts (12/13) All you gotta do to change the font of your page is decide what font you wanna use, say Roboto and write font-family: Roboto… Really? No... not really, it’s more complicated than that. Typography is a gigantic topic in web design and of course you have a ton of options in CSS to better your font styles and its readability. Now this isn’t a design course, so I won’t be covering design theory, I’m not gonna tell you what looks good and what doesn’t, but I will show you how to manage your fonts in HTML/CSS. You can use fonts that already exist on your computer and everybody else’s computers like “Times New Roman” or “Arial”, these are generic “WEB SAFE” fonts, but they’re limited and honestly kinda boring. Or you can use what’s called a custom font. There are a ton of custom fonts out there. If you’re a designer you have definitely worked with custom fonts so you know what I’m talking, you’re also not gonna like what I’m about to say. I am not a huge fan using custom fonts for websites Not because they’re not cool or pretty. But for one thing, not all browsers render custom fonts the same way or even correctly, so you potentially run that risk. Also, using custom fonts means anybody going to your site has to wait for the browser to download the custom font first, then render the site. Where as with generic fonts it doesn’t. And that’s costly, it takes time and bandwidth. Lastly, a huge proportion of custom fonts are great for banners and flyers and quotes (SHOW INSTAGRAM QUOTE, SHAKE HEAD), but they are absolutely awful for long body text like articles. Their readability is not always the best. With all that said, a lot of people still use them for many different reasons. Trust me, I understand the importance of uniqueness and personality when it comes to design, in fact ColorCode’s website uses a custom font on the hero page, but it comes at a cost. Custom fonts are like a chocolate milkshake. They’re sooo amazing but you really shouldn’t be doing it, unless you are willing to pay the price… Anyway,...I still want you to know how to change fonts. There are 2 things you need to do. Load or “EMBED” the font into the page (assuming it’s a custom font, for generic fonts you can skip this step), THEN change the font-family property in your CSS. How do you load fonts? Using a LINK tag in your HTML… OR…. an @import or @Font-Face statement in your CSS to point to the location of that font. It could be loaded from anywhere on the internet and I’ll show you an example in a second. Again, if you’re using a default font, you don’t need to load anything, because Arial is already available on everybody’s computer/phone/iPad, etc... So,...we’re gonna get some help from our friends over at google fonts to demo this. So head over to fonts.google.com and I’ll show you how. So here it is, a long list of custom fonts for you, pick one and look at the instructions. So I’m gonna pick Roboto and look, it even generates the code for you to embed and then set the font-family. Notice the embed part can be done in a couple of different ways, also the CSS font-family statement can take multiple values separated by a comma. This means hey, Mr. Browser, if you can’t find the first one for whatever reason, cuz it’s a fancy one, go to the next one, if you can’t find that one either, keep going until you get to one that you CAN render. You always wanna have backups in case your custom font can’t be loaded. So, in the next video I’m gonna update our Profile page to use Google Fonts. It’ll be our last demo in this course and it’ll instantly make our page look much more professional, see you there.

44.1 css. Шрифты.

00:56
Пример: h1 {font-family: Arial, sans-serif;} style='font-family: "Arial", sans-serif' 44.1. Создайте документ 41.1.htm применив вышеуказанный код.

CSS - Upgrading HTML Tags with Style: Creating a Website Made Easy

20:00
Lesson on Upgrading HTML Tags to CSS Style from Udemy online course: Creating a Website Made Easy Full course description and 25% discount coupon: http://tharsishighlands.com/online-courses/creating-a-website-made-easy/ Transcript: In this lesson, we will take many of the basic HTML tags and use them as CSS element selectors to upgrade their style. In CSS, the HTML tags are called "elements." BODY First, we start with the [body] tag element (YouTube does not allow angle brackets in description). When you first set up your main CSS file, you typically want to establish the basics for your entire page. These can include, • background-color • background-image • default font-size, color and font-family All of these can be handled in the body element. For example, body { background-color: linen; background-image: url("pix/tree.jpg"); font-family: Vera, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; color: #24425C; } SELECTORS We've already seen a little about CSS syntax. For example, h1 { color: blue; } Each CSS style starts with a selector and is followed by one or more declarations within open and close braces — each declaration being a property-value pair: { property: value } Element selectors select all HTML tags of the same name. For instance, for the [p] tag, p { text-align: center; color: red; } [p]All paragraphs with only the p tag are centered and red. This is a demonstration of how the element selector works.[/p] The ID selector uses the ID attribute of an HTML element to select that specific element. ID is a unique identifier. On any one page, there can be only one of that ID. Also, the ID name cannot start with a numeral. For example, #first_heading { color: red; }
This is the First Heading on the Page
The class selector selects all elements with a specific class attribute. .quote { border-style: solid; border-width: 1px; border-color: #880000; padding: 5px; font-size: 18px; font-style: italic; } Here, we see a class called "quote" which uses larger type, italics and a dark red border. Next, is the HTML which uses that class. [p class="quote"]"There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy."[/p] A class can be restricted to only one element type. For example, p.first { text-indent: 0px; } This can be helpful if all other paragraphs are given an indent. The first paragraph after a heading can be made flush left. We can also use more than one class at a time. For example, [p class="first quote"]"Houston, we have a problem..."[/p] We've already seen how selectors which share property values can be grouped. h1, h2, h3 { color: steelblue; } In the earlier lesson on the Head section, we learned how to link to an external style sheet — a file with sets of selectors and declarations. For internal CSS, you have the same selector-declaration combinations, but set within open and close [style] tags. [head] [style] body { background-color: darkslateblue; } [/style] [/head] And for inline CSS, you have the same selector-declaration combinations within a style attribute. [p style="text-indent: 50px; color: steelblue;"]This is important text.[/p] Multiple Styles Cascade into One CSS statements have a sequence of priority. The lowest priority of style is the browser defaults. Next are the external and internal style sheets in the head section. Sequence matters, so if you link to your external style sheet after the internal style declarations, the external CSS takes priority over the internal. Finally, the inline style declarations take the highest priority. For all style information that uses the same selectors, the highest priority replaces the lower priorities. For example, External: p { color: blue; text-indent: 30px; } Internal: p { color: green; } Inline: p { color: red; } The final style is: p { color: red; text-indent: 30px; } Background: The following properties control the background of HTML elements. • background-color • background-image • background-repeat • background-attachment • background-position Example: body { background-color: blue; } As we've already learned, colors can be specified, • As Hex — like "#00ffff" • As RGB — like "rgb(0,255,255)" • By name — like "aqua" We will learn more about colors and the new CSS3 color specification in a later lesson. Background Image: The default behavior of a background image is to repeat the image both vertically and horizontally in order to fill the entire background of the element with the selected picture. body { background-image: url("pix/sandbaked.gif"); } [...] In the next lesson, we talk about fonts, tables and links. CSS Tutorial For Beginners 30 - Font Weight

08:15
Howdy ninjas, in this CSS beginners tutorial we'll take an in-depth look into the font weight property. Font weight in CSS simply means how bold or how light the font displays in a browser. Be aware that not all fonts come with light and bold variations, so the different font weights available in CSS may not work in all cases. One font which has these extra two weights in Windows 8.1 is called Yu Gothic, which I'll be using in this video. Anyway, peace out, have fun and keep on coding :). Chrome has some issues when using/displaying text or glyphs in Helvetica.To fix (or rather, work around) this issue; open the custom.css file located in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\User StyleSheets and add the following: @font-face { font-family: 'helvetica'; src: local('Arial'); } @font-face { font-family: 'helvetica neue'; src: local('Arial'); } As you can see in the video, when saving the file the changes should be immediately applied.

Google Chrome Helvetica Fix | Helvetica Displaying Improperly in Chrome

02:18
Lately I've noticed that some fonts weren't looking right in Google Chrome. After some investigation I found out that it was Helvetica that wasn't displaying properly. Some forums said to uninstall Hlevetica, but why would I do that? Another forum suggested an extension called Stylebot, which ended up working flawlessly. Download Stylebot: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/stylebot/oiaejidbmkiecgbjeifoejpgmdaleoha Add the following style to your Global Stylesheet: @font-face { font-family: Helvetica; src: local('Arial'); } @font-face { font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; src: local('Arial'); } @font-face { font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Custom'; src: local('Arial'); } @font-face { font-family: Helvetica; font-weight: bold; font-weight: 700; src: local('Arial'); } @font-face { font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-weight: bold; font-weight: 700; src: local('Arial'); } @font-face { font-family: "Helvetica Neue Custom"; font-weight: bold; font-weight: 700; src: local('Arial'); } Ta-da! Now your websites should display Arial in place of Helvetica.

fluid container reflow

00:27
This container was created with a DIV element and inline CSS. There are no images in the background or around the edges. Note: I had to use (less than angle bracket) to represent the backward pointing less than angle bracket used in the code, and (greater than angle bracket) to represent the forward pointing greater than angle bracket on the keyboard. Each of these is one character. Youtube won't allow for this character in the description below. The code that you would enter into the HTML Code View is: (less than angle bracket)div style="border-radius: 25px; background-color: #006a4d; color: #fff; padding: 1.5em; margin:1.5em; font-size: 1 em; font-weight: bold; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"(greater than angle bracket)(less than angle bracket)p(greater than angle bracket)Here's a single container with rounded corners in which you can write whatever you would like. This box will respond to your screen size so that the text reflows and remains visible without scrolling, until Blackboard's content area hits its minimum width of 1150 pixels. It doesn't use an image in its background, so it is light weight in terms of downloading content. Its only limitation is set within Blackboard Learn's minimum width size for the parent element (the content area).(less than angle bracket)(forward slash)p(greater than angle bracket)(less than angle bracket)/div(greater than angle bracket) Note the words contained within the DIV element that display in white letters. You can simply select this text and delete it, and enter whatever message you would like to appear here. The essentials to keep are: (less than angle bracket)div style="border-radius: 25px; background-color: #006a4d; color: #fff; padding: 1.5em; margin:1.5em; font-size: 1 em; font-weight: bold; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"(greater than angle bracket)(less than angle bracket)p(greater than angle bracket)(less than angle bracket)/p(greater than angle bracket)(less than angle bracket)/div(greater than angle bracket) . Write whatever you would like in between the (less than angle bracket)div(greater than angle bracket) tags. The style="border-radius: 25px; background-color: #006a4d; color: #fff; padding: 1.5em; margin:1.5em; font-size: 1 em; font-weight: bold; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;" is not HTML, but "inline" CSS. CSS is another web language, that styles the content laid out by HTML. CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheet. Most web designers use separate (external) style sheets of CSS and link to them within their web page. We have to use what is called "inline" CSS within a content management system in order to impose the styling that we want and override the basic styling set within the learning management system's CSS files.

Helvetica rendering problem in Google Chrome (PC)

07:19
In some cases certain fonts ttf and otf won't render correctly in Google Chrome. (In my case it was Helvetica). This video explains how to uninstall corrupt fonts from a PC running Windows 7 or 8. I discovered that this is in fact not a Chrome Bug bug but rather relates to corrupt fonts in the windows system folder. The only way to fix it, is to remove and re-install the fonts which is only possible from Windows safe mode in most cases. Follow along at your own risk to see if this will help fix the problem. DO NOT delete fonts if you don't know if they are absolutely corrupt. You can damage your windows installation and might need to do a complete reinstall.

Let us understand ngFor structural directive with an example. Consider the following array of Employee objects. employees : any[]= [ { code: 'emp101', name: 'Tom', gender: 'Male', annualSalary: 5500, dateOfBirth: '25/6/1988' }, { code: 'emp102', name: 'Alex', gender: 'Male', annualSalary: 5700.95, dateOfBirth: '9/6/1982' }, { code: 'emp103', name: 'Mike', gender: 'Male', annualSalary: 5900, dateOfBirth: '12/8/1979' }, { code: 'emp104', name: 'Mary', gender: 'Female', annualSalary: 6500.826, dateOfBirth: '14/10/1980' }, ]; We want to display these employees in a table on a web page. Step 1 : Add a new TypeScript file to the "employee" folder. Name it employeeList.component.ts. Copy and paste the following code in it. import { Component } from '@angular/core'; @Component({ selector: 'list-employee', templateUrl: 'app/employee/employeeList.component.html', styleUrls: ['app/employee/employeeList.component.css'] }) export class EmployeeListComponent { employees : any[]= [ { code: 'emp101', name: 'Tom', gender: 'Male', annualSalary: 5500, dateOfBirth: '25/6/1988' }, { code: 'emp102', name: 'Alex', gender: 'Male', annualSalary: 5700.95, dateOfBirth: '9/6/1982' }, { code: 'emp103', name: 'Mike', gender: 'Male', annualSalary: 5900, dateOfBirth: '12/8/1979' }, { code: 'emp104', name: 'Mary', gender: 'Female', annualSalary: 6500.826, dateOfBirth: '14/10/1980' }, ]; } Step 2 : Add a new HTML page to the "employee" folder. Name it employeeList.component.html. Copy and paste the following code in it. Please note : 1. ngFor is usually used to display an array of items 2. Since ngFor is a structutal directive it is prefixed with * 3. *ngFor='let employee of employees' - In this example 'employee' is called template input variable, which can be accessed by the 4.
element and any of it's child elements. 5. ngIf structural directive displays the row "No employees to display" when employees property does not exist or when there are ZERO employees in the array.
[thead]
[th]Code[/th] [th]Name[/th] [th]Gender[/th] [th]Annual Salary[/th] [th]Date of Birth[/th]
[/thead] [tbody]
{{employee.code}} {{employee.name}} {{employee.gender}} {{employee.annualSalary}} {{employee.dateOfBirth}}

No employees to display
[/tbody]
Step 3 : Add a new StyleSheet to the "employee" folder. Name it employeeList.component.css. Copy and paste the following code in it. table { color: #369; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large; border-collapse: collapse; } td { border: 1px solid #369; padding:5px; } th{ border: 1px solid #369; padding:5px; } Step 4 : In the root module, i.e app.module.ts, import employeeList component and add it to the declarations array as shown below. import { EmployeeListComponent } from './employee/employeeList.component'; @NgModule({ imports: [BrowserModule], declarations: [AppComponent, EmployeeComponent, EmployeeListComponent], bootstrap: [AppComponent] }) export class AppModule { } Step 5 : In the root component, i.e app.component.ts use employeeList component as a directive @Component({ selector: 'my-app', template: `[list-employee][/list-employee] ` }) At this point, run the application and notice the employees are displayed in the table as expected.
