Oracle 12c Database New Features - Pluggable Database - Video 1

17:25
Oracle 12c Database New Features - Pluggable Database - Video 1 1. Pluggable Database * Oracle 12c introduces a new feature called 'Pluggable Database'. Here Oracle Metadata and user data are totally separated into two sections. One is Container DB (or CDB) which will hold Oracle Metadata. The other is Pluggable DB (or PDB) which will hold user data. How does a Pluggable Database work? In the regular database, Oracle's metadata and user's application data are integrated. For beginners, Oracle Metadata is the data that is present when you install a new Oracle Database (without any sample schemas). Even though it can be called as an empty database, it still has data provided by Oracle. This data is needed by the database to function. For example, the objects owned by SYS, SYSTEM are mostly metadata. Then user data is entered into that database. They will go under multiple user schemas. Now the database is being used by the users. Now a situation arises so that we need to create another database on the same server. Why? Let us say that you need to provide data to two clients. And you don't want one client to other's data. And your data is contained in an extensive set of application schemas. In this case, making a copy of those applications schemas into a different set of names and making them reside in the same database is very difficult. So, you provide two separate databases. This also ensures that there is no security violation. So, we install another new database, which comes with Oracle Metadata. Then we load the user data. In this method, which is currently being used (Year 2013), there will be a need for more memory for both the database instances. There will be two SGAs, two sets of smon, pmon and other background processes running. Then if we need to copy one database to another, we need to rely on extensive procedures which includes exporting the data from the source database first, then removing the data at the target and then finally loading the data in there. After that, we need to take care of the user security and object privileges etc. So, if you want to provide data for multiple tenants, that is multiple clients, then with the current set of features (till Oracle 11g), we have to create multiple databases. That is, one database for one client. In otherwords, there is no multi-tenancy. Multi-Tenancy is becoming an important requirement in cloud infrastructure, these days. You would like to have the ability of providing data to multiple clients from the same database system with full confidence in security. This can be achieved in Pluggable Database. In a Pluggable Database, Oracle basically separates its metadata entirely from the user data. Metadata is stored in a section called Container DB. Then the user data are stored in Pluggable DBs. It also stores user metadata in the Pluggable DB. By the way, what is user metadata? For example, earlier, the list of user accounts that exist in a database is tightly inegrated with Oracle Metadata. Now, with the separation of Container DB and Pluggable DB, the user accounts must exist in the Pluggable DB. So, the Pluggable DB not only contains user data, but also some user metadata. So, what are the benefits? * Multi-Tenancy - We can bring in two Pluggable DBs under one Container DB. Both will be totally segregated, but yet controlled by one instance. This is an important feature for SaaS (Software as a Service) platforms, Cloud, On-Demand and Vendor Managed Application solutions. * Easy cloning/copying. Now the cloning and copying the databases across servers would be much easier. Just clone a Pluggable DB and plug-it-in in a different server. * Very easy upgrades and patching.

SQLPLUS: LineSize & PageSize

03:49
In this tutorial, you'll learn how to set linesize and pagesize . PL/SQL (Procedural Language/Structured Query Language) is Oracle Corporation's procedural extension for SQL and the Oracle relational database. PL/SQL is available in Oracle Database (since version 7), TimesTen in-memory database (since version 11.2.1), and IBM DB2 (since version 9.7).[1] Oracle Corporation usually extends PL/SQL functionality with each successive release of the Oracle Database. PL/SQL includes procedural language elements such as conditions and loops. It allows declaration of constants and variables, procedures and functions, types and variables of those types, and triggers. It can handle exceptions (runtime errors). Arrays are supported involving the use of PL/SQL collections. Implementations from version 8 of Oracle Database onwards have included features associated with object-orientation. One can create PL/SQL units such as procedures, functions, packages, types, and triggers, which are stored in the database for reuse by applications that use any of the Oracle Database programmatic interfaces. PL/SQL works analogously to the embedded procedural languages associated with other relational databases. For example, Sybase ASE and Microsoft SQL Server have Transact-SQL, PostgreSQL has PL/pgSQL (which emulates PL/SQL to an extent), and IBM DB2 includes SQL Procedural Language,[2] which conforms to the ISO SQL’s SQL/PSM standard. The designers of PL/SQL modeled its syntax on that of Ada. Both Ada and PL/SQL have Pascal as a common ancestor, and so PL/SQL also resembles Pascal in several aspects. However, the structure of a PL/SQL package does not resemble the basic Object Pascal program structure as implemented by a Borland Delphi or Free Pascal unit. Programmers can define public and private global data-types, constants and static variables in a PL/SQL package.[3] PL/SQL also allows for the definition of classes and instantiating these as objects in PL/SQL code. This resembles usage in object-oriented programming languages like Object Pascal, C++ and Java. PL/SQL refers to a class as an "Abstract Data Type" (ADT) or "User Defined Type" (UDT), and defines it as an Oracle SQL data-type as opposed to a PL/SQL user-defined type, allowing its use in both the Oracle SQL Engine and the Oracle PL/SQL engine. The constructor and methods of an Abstract Data Type are written in PL/SQL. The resulting Abstract Data Type can operate as an object class in PL/SQL. Such objects can also persist as column values in Oracle database tables. PL/SQL is fundamentally distinct from Transact-SQL, despite superficial similarities. Porting code from one to the other usually involves non-trivial work, not only due to the differences in the feature sets of the two languages,[4] but also due to the very significant differences in the way Oracle and SQL Server deal with concurrency and locking. There are software tools available that claim to facilitate porting including Oracle Translation Scratch Editor,[5] CEITON MSSQL/Oracle Compiler [6] and SwisSQL.[7] The StepSqlite product is a PL/SQL compiler for the popular small database SQLite. PL/SQL Program Unit A PL/SQL program unit is one of the following: PL/SQL anonymous block, procedure, function, package specification, package body, trigger, type specification, type body, library. Program units are the PL/SQL source code that is compiled, developed and ultimately executed on the database. The basic unit of a PL/SQL source program is the block, which groups together related declarations and statements. A PL/SQL block is defined by the keywords DECLARE, BEGIN, EXCEPTION, and END. These keywords divide the block into a declarative part, an executable part, and an exception-handling part. The declaration section is optional and may be used to define and initialize constants and variables. If a variable is not initialized then it defaults to NULL value. The optional exception-handling part is used to handle run time errors. Only the executable part is required. A block can have a label. Package Packages are groups of conceptually linked functions, procedures, variables, PL/SQL table and record TYPE statements, constants, cursors etc. The use of packages promotes re-use of code. Packages are composed of the package specification and an optional package body. The specification is the interface to the application; it declares the types, variables, constants, exceptions, cursors, and subprograms available. The body fully defines cursors and subprograms, and so implements the specification. Two advantages of packages are: Modular approach, encapsulation/hiding of business logic, security, performance improvement, re-usability. They support object-oriented programming features like function overloading and encapsulation. Using package variables one can declare session level (scoped) variables, since variables declared in the package specification have a session scope.

How to Set Environment Variables in Windows

01:27
Follow this step by step tutorial to learn how to set environment variables from system settings in the windows operating system. Don't forget to check out our site http://howtech.tv/ for more free how-to videos! http://youtube.com/ithowtovids - our feed http://www.facebook.com/howtechtv - join us on facebook https://plus.google.com/103440382717658277879 - our group in Google+ In this tutorial, you will learn how to set environment variables in windows. Operating systems require environment variables as settings and configurations for several processes. Although these variables are automatically defined or initialized during the installation of the system or specific software, in windows, to set environment variables manually is not a difficult task. That's because windows allows us to manually add, remove or edit environment variables through system settings according to our requirements. Step # 1 -- Opening environment variables In windows, to set environmental variables, you can take two paths. Either we can go to control panel, then access the system security option, and then the system option. Or we can simply right click on My Computer and select its properties. Once we are in the system window, select the advanced system settings from the list on the left side. A new window will pop up. Over here, click on the environment variables button near the bottom of this window and you can now access the Windows environment variables. Step # 2 -- Adding a variable In this window there are two sets of environment variables, one is the "user variables", and the other is the "system variables". Choose the new button in the user variables section to open the "define a new variable" dialog window. Over here, you will be required to define the variable name as anything you wish to set, such as temporary and then define its value as the path to the directory. With that done, let's complete this process by pressing OK. Your new environment variable has been created now. Step # 3 -- Editing and removing a variable To edit an environment variable, click on it, and then click on the edit button to open a dialog window. Here we can edit the name and value of the variable. Likewise to remove an environment variable, simply click on the variable and then click on the delete button. Once all the definitions are complete, close the window and restart your computer to allow the operating system to load these settings on boot. And that's basically all you need to know for how to set environment variables in windows.

What is Autonomous transaction in Oracle

05:05
What is Autonomous transaction in Oracle. This is very frequently asking question in Interview. Hello Friend, in this Video You can learn how we can give the answer of Autonomous Transactions. An autonomous transaction is available from Oracle 8i. It is a very cool, useful, unique and powerful feature in oracle. An autonomous transaction is an independent transaction that is initiated by another transaction. It must contain at least one Structured Query Language (SQL) statement. When an autonomous transaction is called, the original transaction (calling transaction) is temporarily suspended. The autonomous transaction must commit or roll back before it returns control to the calling transaction. Once changes have been made by an autonomous transaction, those changes are visible to other transactions in the database. Autonomous transactions can be nested. For use Autonomous Transactions feature in program we have to use PRAGMA AUTONOMOUS_TRANSACTION Key word in Program When to use Autonomous Transactions? • Logging mechanism you need to log an error to your database log table. On the other hand, you need to roll back your core transaction because of the error. And you don't want to roll back over other log entries. • Commits and rollbacks in your database triggers If you define a trigger as an autonomous transaction, then you can commit and/or roll back in that code. • Software usage meter You want to keep track of how often a program is called during an application session. This information is not dependent on, and cannot affect, the transaction being processed in the application. Mutation Error Using autonomous transaction we can avoid mutation error. This is a toggle in the application settings where you can decide between exporting out all objects, which is the current default and it includes smart-less detail. Now you're able to hit NO on this setting which means that your automated backups will contain a complete backup with data but excluding smart forms. The reason this is coming about is Oracle decided they're seeing that when you're exporting all data and having to also include smart list text detail within that, they weren't quite hitting their hour window for backups so now that gives you the option to either continue which means that back up might take a little longer than expected. When you export everything including smart list detail then you can incrementally import back in piece by piece as you normally would with your LCM from the environment selecting no means that you're only able to bring in the same set of objects as are exported meeting you won't have that smart list detailing you won't have the ability to incrementally import back into the environment before specific objects. Something to keep in mind here if you have smart lists in your environment and you're seeing that your back up is taking longer than expected. This is an option to expedite that process if need be.

See how Oracle Voice gives you a CRM rocket ship powered by current sales data

01:38
A CRM solution is only as good as the sales data it holds, and most of this data comes from field sales representatives who are expected to enter it on their laptops and desktops. But typical reps spend a lot of time traveling and in meetings when the only device available is a smart phone. No surprise then that current sales data may be delayed getting into sales systems, impacting sales leaders visibility into sales activity. Enter Oracle Voice, a fun virtual assistant that lets sales teams speak directly to the Oracle Sales Cloud on their smart phones. It's a fast, friendly and fun way for them to access and capture their sales data. With increased usage, everyone benefits from current sales data, improved visibility from sales activities, and better sales decisions.
