Oracle 12c Database New Features - Pluggable Database - Video 1

17:25
Oracle 12c Database New Features - Pluggable Database - Video 1 1. Pluggable Database * Oracle 12c introduces a new feature called 'Pluggable Database'. Here Oracle Metadata and user data are totally separated into two sections. One is Container DB (or CDB) which will hold Oracle Metadata. The other is Pluggable DB (or PDB) which will hold user data. How does a Pluggable Database work? In the regular database, Oracle's metadata and user's application data are integrated. For beginners, Oracle Metadata is the data that is present when you install a new Oracle Database (without any sample schemas). Even though it can be called as an empty database, it still has data provided by Oracle. This data is needed by the database to function. For example, the objects owned by SYS, SYSTEM are mostly metadata. Then user data is entered into that database. They will go under multiple user schemas. Now the database is being used by the users. Now a situation arises so that we need to create another database on the same server. Why? Let us say that you need to provide data to two clients. And you don't want one client to other's data. And your data is contained in an extensive set of application schemas. In this case, making a copy of those applications schemas into a different set of names and making them reside in the same database is very difficult. So, you provide two separate databases. This also ensures that there is no security violation. So, we install another new database, which comes with Oracle Metadata. Then we load the user data. In this method, which is currently being used (Year 2013), there will be a need for more memory for both the database instances. There will be two SGAs, two sets of smon, pmon and other background processes running. Then if we need to copy one database to another, we need to rely on extensive procedures which includes exporting the data from the source database first, then removing the data at the target and then finally loading the data in there. After that, we need to take care of the user security and object privileges etc. So, if you want to provide data for multiple tenants, that is multiple clients, then with the current set of features (till Oracle 11g), we have to create multiple databases. That is, one database for one client. In otherwords, there is no multi-tenancy. Multi-Tenancy is becoming an important requirement in cloud infrastructure, these days. You would like to have the ability of providing data to multiple clients from the same database system with full confidence in security. This can be achieved in Pluggable Database. In a Pluggable Database, Oracle basically separates its metadata entirely from the user data. Metadata is stored in a section called Container DB. Then the user data are stored in Pluggable DBs. It also stores user metadata in the Pluggable DB. By the way, what is user metadata? For example, earlier, the list of user accounts that exist in a database is tightly inegrated with Oracle Metadata. Now, with the separation of Container DB and Pluggable DB, the user accounts must exist in the Pluggable DB. So, the Pluggable DB not only contains user data, but also some user metadata. So, what are the benefits? * Multi-Tenancy - We can bring in two Pluggable DBs under one Container DB. Both will be totally segregated, but yet controlled by one instance. This is an important feature for SaaS (Software as a Service) platforms, Cloud, On-Demand and Vendor Managed Application solutions. * Easy cloning/copying. Now the cloning and copying the databases across servers would be much easier. Just clone a Pluggable DB and plug-it-in in a different server. * Very easy upgrades and patching.

Analytical Functions in oracle explained with real examples

25:24
This video explains analytical functions and how they are implemented in real projects. Analytical functions are somewhat similar to aggregate functions, but they offer much more. Why use analytical function ? They allow you to write fast and concise queries which otherwise will involve self join and long processing times They allow you to perform aggregate functions independently on sets of partitions. You can access values from previous rows in current row and you can restrict the window on which you want to apply this analytical function. I have given additional practice exercises along with the dataset so that you can comfortably work with analytical functions. You can find the sample problems along with dataset in the below link. http://www.internshipsfromhome.com/oracle-analytical-functions-ddl-and-dml/

(20:02) Track List created with http://www.vinjavideo.com. --- --- Exadata taking enterprise IT by storm | #oow15 by Andrew Ruggiero | Oct 25, 2015 Oracle OpenWorld is off to a thrilling start with every intention of shaking up the Big Data and Cloud industries. There’s new software, hardware, and customers that are driving the change over to the cloud and have revolutionized Oracle Inc.’s ability to deliver services to the enterprise consumer. But can they compete with Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS)? John Furrier and Brian Gracely, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, sat down with Tim Shetler, VP of product management at Oracle, to get the scoop on Oracle’s combined compute and storage system Exadata, innovations at Oracle, and where he sees enterprise customers heading. Exadata growing Exadata is released “every 12 to 14 months” with a new version that contains the latest and greatest in its offering. Some generational differences mark double and triple increases in memory, storage capacity and computing speeds. Shetler noted that over the past seven years this has amounted to a significantly improved product offering. When storage was brought up, Shetler mentioned that while flash was in the “terabytes,” there was always going to be a hierarchical nature to storage and what Oracle does is prioritize database information to the most appropriate storage form. Removing complexity Shetler said the mentality and approach at Oracle was one of “[doing] anything to hide the complexity.” The Oracle user experience should be seamless and simple, something echoed by its competitors. In-memory is where the firm shines, however, as current Oracle databases can be easily integrated and seamlessly analyzed using one of many of Oracle’s analytic tools. This process requires almost no work on the part of the user and instead places the burden on Oracle to provide those services. It looks like shadow IT is here to grow. Enterprise customers with Oracle are happy to take advantage of this easy migration in a world where migrating is often costly and time consuming, and Shetler expects that hybrid data environments will be with us forever, and Oracle will be a leader for the enterprise’ cloud needs. @theCUBE #oow15

HowTo - Install & Setup Slackware Linux Current 15.0

55:27
HowTo - Install & Setup Slackware Linux Current 15.0 Slackware is the oldest living Linux distribution and is moving forward, despite financial troubles. If you feel the need to help Slackware, go to Patrick Volkerding's PayPal site to donate. I install and setup Slackware Current 64bit in Virtualbox and install some software from SlackBuilds with two different frontends, sbopkg and sboui. The setup includes: creating a user and setting the password, configuring the slackpkg mirror and running an update, enabling the gui login, and adding my user to the sudoers file. The video covers a lot of material, so feel free to stop and rewind when needed. Here is a list of steps used in the setup of Slackware for desktop use: ------------------------------------------------ ** Add user account useradd -m -g users -G wheel, floppy, audio, video, cdrom, plugdev, power, netdev,lp,scanner -s /bin/bash $USER passwd $USER ------------------------------------------------ ** Configure package manager nano /etc/slackpkg/mirrors Uncomment a single mirror URL. Make sure that the URL mentions the release number for the version of Slackware you are running. Also, pick a mirror which is close to you or of which you know it is fast. When you have done that, you need to initialize slackpkg's database by running: # slackpkg update gpg # slackpkg update ------------------------------------------------ ** Installing updates using slackpkg The slackpkg update command will connect to a Slackware mirror and update the local package information database on your computer. This command does not actually install any package. The usual routine for upgrading your Slackware to the latest patches is as follows: # slackpkg update # slackpkg install-new # slackpkg upgrade-all # slackpkg clean-system The “install-new”, “upgrade-all” and “clean-system” commands will always show you a list of candidate packages to act on before excecuting anything. This allows you to review the suggested package alterations and select/deselect anything you do not agree with. The “clean-system” is technically only needed after you upgrade from one Slackware release to the next (say, from 14.1 to 14.2) and it is meant to remove any Slackware package which is not (or no longer) part of the core distribution. ------------------------------------------------- ** Enable display manager nano /etc/inittab change default runlevel to 4 ------------------------------------------------- ** Add user to sudoers file Open /etc/sudoers file with your favorite text editor as root, then remove comment character, #, in front of line "%wheel ALL=(ALL) ALL" and save. # visudo or # nano /etc/sudoers # Uncomment to allow people in group wheel to run all commands # %wheel ALL=(ALL) ALL Change above line as in below and save file. # Uncomment to allow people in group wheel to run all commands %wheel ALL=(ALL) ALL If you did not add your user to the wheel group when creating the user, you need to add your user name to group wheel also. # gpasswd -aG $USER wheel ------------------------------------------------

See how Oracle Voice gives you a CRM rocket ship powered by current sales data

01:38
A CRM solution is only as good as the sales data it holds, and most of this data comes from field sales representatives who are expected to enter it on their laptops and desktops. But typical reps spend a lot of time traveling and in meetings when the only device available is a smart phone. No surprise then that current sales data may be delayed getting into sales systems, impacting sales leaders visibility into sales activity. Enter Oracle Voice, a fun virtual assistant that lets sales teams speak directly to the Oracle Sales Cloud on their smart phones. It's a fast, friendly and fun way for them to access and capture their sales data. With increased usage, everyone benefits from current sales data, improved visibility from sales activities, and better sales decisions.
