I think Australia is being put much more in the spotlight now which is amazing because it has always been a place where designers had to come overseas to get more success and now I think they are getting more success in their own right because they have such an individual style and it is so prominent their viewpoint. It is amazing to see. We all look after each other and we all support each other. When one of us does well, we all try to support and help each other. It has been great." 15. Various party GEMMA LEADS BIG PUSH FOR MINI MAG Australian supermodel Gemma Ward led from the front to help promote the new US fashion magazine, 'The Daily Mini,' which launched using a shot of the blue-eyed beauty on the cover. The Australian stunner was at the magazine's launch party on Tuesday (6 June) night in New York City. "Obviously it is a landmark first cover so it is always great to be there when it starts and be supportive from the beginning," Ward said. "I've always been a huge fan of 'The Daily' from fashion week. It always makes me laugh. It is always very light and very informative. It's a real honour," she added. 'The Daily Mini' is a spin-off of the fashion insider magazine, 'The Daily.' The new title is a weekly release which focuses on up-to-the-minute behind-the-scenes fashion news. Promoting the new magazine, Ward suggested it is a must-have for dedicated followers of fashion: "It's something that is bringing something different to fashion. It's very important. It is something that is opening us up to a different way of reporting and a different way of feeling fashion. That is always something you need to look forward to because it is about the future," said Ward. The model also flew the flag for her fellow Aussie designers, now gaining respect in the worldwide fashion scene. "Well I think nowadays they are, (respected)" Ward told AP Entertainment. 'The Daily Mini' is currently on newsstands in the New York area. SOUNDBITE (Dari) Latifa "Recently, I've seen in the streets of Kabul, a army car which stopped and men started beating a woman on the legs with a lead stick. This day was a Muslim feast and people were celebrating. Her legs covered with blood, she dared ask why she was beaten. The answer was it was because she was wearing white shoes, and white is the colour of the Taliban flag and the white had to be covered by the red of her blood. This woman didn't have anymore strength to defend herself. Since this, I'm scared to go in the streets." 5. Various Homa listening 6. Diba and French right-wing deputy Roselyne Bachelot listening 7. Cutaway audience listening 8. SOUNDBITE (Dari) Homa "We had a normal life before. I had a job before the arrival of the Talibans. We were on the way to have more freedom and the recognition of women's identity. Our children were going to school, to university. Since the arrival of the Talibans, I feel that we regressed for hundred years and I wonder how long it's going to take to reconquer all we have lost. That's why I'm here. That's why we need you to help us." 9. News conference 10. Various Afghan women leaving news conference with president of National Assembly Raymond Forni 11. Photos showing Afghan women wearing mini-skirts in 1972 and Afgan women wearing tchadri in 2001 14. SOUNDBITE (French) Valerie Toranian, deputy editor in chief Elle magazine "I think that the reactions after the destruction of the Buddhas of Bamiyan, paradoxically, has shocked and scandilised us. We were very shocked that people were indignant by the destruction of those buddhas and not by the condition of the population and specifically the condition of women. In fact it's been quite beneficial because all that has moved the public. People have realised that the Taliban regime was madness, destructive obscurantism, total repression." 15. Elle covers 16. SOUNDBITE (Dari) Latifa "The daily life of all the women in Kabul or in the rest of Afghanistan is just sadness, humiliation everyday in the street, everywhere. For me, it's more risks, because I continue the clandestine resistance. I haven't left my house for a long time because I'm scared. They are black curtains on my windows because we can't watch outside. It's humiliation even in our home." 17. Various Afgan women meeting journalists from Elle in newsroom 18. Journalists applauding STORYLINE Three Afghan women from the Afghan capital Kabul were in Paris on Friday, to meet members of the media at the National Assembly. The three women, smuggled out of the Afghan capital several days ago, were shrouded in all-enveloping burqas, called tchadri, both to protect their identities and to safeguard the well-being of their families. Going only by the false names of Homa, Latifa and Diba, they appealed for international help to protect their rights. All three have been active in setting up clandestine neighbourhood schools for boys and girls, in violation of Taliban rules. The French weekly magazine Elle was the initiator of the visit - with the unofficial help from the French authorities. This week, the usually glamourous magazine put on its cover a photo of an Afghan woman, her face hidden by the tchadri imposed by the Taliban to women. In the Taliban's interpretation of Islam, women are barred from education and most jobs and are forced to wear full-body veils. Men must wear beards and pray in the mosques. HEADLINE: Magazine's 'satirical' Obama cover stirs outrage --------------------------------------- CAPTION: A satirical New Yorker magazine cover cartoon depicting Barack Obama and his wife as flag-burning, fist-bumping radicals drew outrage from the Democratic presidential candidate's campaign as it appeared on newsstands Monday. (July 14) ---------------------------------------- [Notes:ANCHOR VOICE] NB. THIS IS A VOICEOVER TRANSCRIPT, NOT A FULL SHOT LIST. [Notes:Vid magazine cover] Barack Obama's campaign is calling it tasteless and offensive. It's a satirical New Yorker magazine cover showing Obama dressed as a Muslim ... his wife as a terrorist. [Notes:SOT Patrick Egan, Assistant Professor of Politics at New York University: "If this were on the cover of Time magazine or Newsweek, I would be more likely to think that this would be perpetuating false beliefs. "] The cover also shows an American flag burning in the fireplace ... and a picture of Osama bin Laden hangs on the wall. [Notes:Vid Obama at presser] When asked about the magazine ... Obama had nothing to say. [Notes:NATS "I have no response to that"] [Notes:VID NYC street] But some New York City resident did. [Notes:SOT Will Minton, New York resident: "I see it more playing into the stereotypes that have been established during the campaign than anything based on racial, but there is definitely going to be that interpretation out there."] [Notes:SOT Anthony Rutkiewicz, New York resident: "Like I said, I see some kind of racism here with that thing on his head and right now he's Christian, most of his people that are voting for him are Christians."] [Notes:Vid McCain] And Obama's rival for the White House ... Republican John McCain ... Had this to say: [Notes:SOT John McCain: "totally inappropriate, and frankly I understand if Senator Obama and his supporters would find it offensive."] [Notes:Vod shots New Yorker sign] Responding to the cover's criticism .... The New Yorker's editor. [Notes:SOT David Remnick, editor of "The New Yorker": "The intent of the cover is to satirise the vicious and racist attacks and rumours and misconceptions about the Obamas that have been floating around in the blogo-sphere and are reflected in public opinion polls."] [Notes:Various vid Obama] The cartoon is not explained inside the magazine. But the issue does feature a 15-thousand-word story about Obama's political education and early years in Chicago. Wide of news stand 9. SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) Jose Antonio Udino, news stand owner: "People are pretty surprised when they look at it, and they ask me whether it's the Virgin or not." 10. Close of magazine cover STORYLINE PLAYBOY MARY A Mexican issue of the Playboy magazine showing the cover of a model allegedly posing like the Virgin Mary has caused outrage among some Catholics. December is the month in which (m) millions of Mexican Catholics celebrate the festival of the Virgin of Guadalupe, which showcases a rich variety of Virgin Mary images. However the cover of Playboy magazine may have been the last place Catholics would have expected to see a picture they many say depicts the Virgin Mary. The Mexican edition of the gentleman's magazine features a nude woman with a white sheet draped over her head and body standing next to a prop that resembles a stained glass window. The pose and facial expression evoke the docile and innocent image of the Virgin Mary seen in many paintings and statues. As of Wednesday, the edition had sold 80-thousand copies. With only a 100-thousand copies, the press director of Lyrsa Editores, the company that publishes the magazine in Mexico, said there were no plans to print more. Some Catholics, naturally were not impressed with the representation. One newspaper stand owner selling the magazine said most people were pretty surprised by the image. "With all the things in the world they could have done, they shouldn't have picked such a delicate topic, something that is so important to those of us who are believers," said one resident. Hundreds of thousands of Mexicans converge on the Basilica of Guadalupe each December to honour and pray to the patron saint of Mexico. Tens of thousands of pilgrims arrive each year on the anniversary of the apparition of the Virgin of Guadalupe to the Indian Juan Diego. Aguilera joins the list of pregnant stars on magazine covers

AP Entertainment - File Los Angeles, 11th February 2007 4. Medium shot Christina Aguilera AP Entertainment - File Los Angeles, 21st September 2006 5. Various Christine Aguilera PREGNANT AGUILERA SEMI-NAKED ON MAGAZINE COVER Christina Aguilera flaunts her pregnancy in an upcoming issue of Marie Claire magazine. The 26-year-old singer is shown wearing a cropped jacket, hoop earrings and a ring on the cover of the January issue, on newsstands on December 11. Excerpts from the story were released on Wednesday. Aguilera and her husband, Jordan Bratman, were married in 2005. The singer says she learned she was pregnant while on her recent "Back to Basics" tour. "We were planning on starting to try after the tour. And so, I had gone off the pill to prepare my body, because I didn't know how much time it would take. You've heard it takes some time - except with Power Egg and Super Sperm here," she says. "... I'm like, 'Oh my god, can you believe it just happened?'" Aguilera says she became "paranoid" during the tour. "There are so many things that could go wrong - somebody could slip, somebody could fall, I could fall," says Aguilera, who wore a heart monitor during performances. "There was no way ... I was going to jeopardise my baby for my show." She confirmed her pregnancy earlier this month in the U.K. edition of Glamour magazine. Aguilera says she kept the baby news quiet for her fans' sake. "I didn't want to make the audience uncomfortable, like, 'Pregnant lady onstage! Is she going to be OK?' But I had to announce it to my band and my dancers, because I wanted to make sure they had my back," she says. She adds: "Because I hadn't said anything, people thought I was trying to keep it this big, bad secret, and that's not the case at all. I just wasn't commenting. I'm not being like, 'Hey everybody, I'm pregnant!' I'm not that girl." English/Nat The U-S magazine, 'People', is making no apologies for putting Chelsea Clinton on its cover. But Bill and Hillary Clinton say they are "profoundly saddened" by the magazine's decision to run an eight-page story on their daughter. They say it goes against a gentlemen's agreement to respect their daughter's privacy. There have been glimpses of Chelsea Clinton over the years. She is often seen with her mother, First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, and the two seem to have a close relationship. But no one really knows because, for the most part, Chelsea Clinton's privacy has been respected by the media. While President Clinton may be one of the most photographed, most talked about and most analysed people in the world, his daughter has stayed out of the limelight. While Chelsea was at high school, the media largely left her alone. But there have been more news stories about her since she entered Stanford University in 1997. On Friday, she will be featured on the cover of 'People' magazine, and the Clintons are not amused. The magazine will run a story with the headline: "Hillary & Chelsea - Grace Under Fire." 'People' is billing the story as "an intimate look at the deep bond of love that sustains the Clinton women through their painful family ordeal." Carol Wallace, the magazine's managing editor, says at nearly 19, Chelsea is a poised young adult and an eyewitness to the "family drama." Wallace claims the president's daughter is a valid journalistic subject. In a statement, the President and First Lady say they "deeply regret and are profoundly saddened" by the magazine's decision. SOUNDBITE: (English) "I talked to the president about this after he returned, and I think the statement speaks directly to their objection and their sadness that 'People' has decided to print a story about their daughter. I think, as you all know, for six years there's been an arrangement that has worked very well that has respected the first family's daughter's privacy. The president and the first lady want to thank everyone in this room for respecting that privacy. And it's their hope, my hope, that as we move forward her privacy will continue to receive the same respect." SUPER CAPTION: Joe Lockhart. White House press spokesman Administration officials say they don't think there are any startling revelations in the magazine's forthcoming issue. But Marsha Berry, Hillary Clinton's spokeswoman, says there's never been a cover story on Chelsea, and that's where the line was crossed. The Clintons say 'People' magazine chose to run the story, even though they were asked not to because of worries about security and privacy. How Aristocracies Rule
The American fairytale is far from enchanted. Power and wealth are concentrated in an anxious aristocracy, comprised of 10% of the population, that reigns by dividing the lower classes and pitting them against each other so that the poor turn against the poor. It’s how most aristocracies throughout history have worked. It’s also how the American elite convinced 25 million non-slaveholding citizens to aid and abet them in slavery. Can America ever live up to its promise of a government by and for the people? Head & Heart From The Archives of Podline6 America Cover
I found some old stuff, from a few years ago.. I'll publish a few, to show myself in a slightly less gray-haired light.. :)) I love this America song. Other than the song 'Hat Trick', this is the only long to feature all 3 guys (Dewey, Dan, and Gerry) as lead vocalists in the same song.. Also, it was a rarity in that they did not write it. It was written by John Martyn. It's a cool tune.. Enjoy

Fashion fans discuss controversial Gigi Hadid Vogue Italia cover
(4 May 2018) FASHION FANS DISCUSS CONTROVERSIAL GIGI HADID VOGUE ITALIA COVER Fashion fans and members of the public in Italy reacted Friday (4 MAY 2018) to Vogue Italia's controversial May cover featuring model Gigi Hadid. The cover photo, shot by photographer Steven Klein, shows the normally blonde Hadid with dark hair and heavily bronzed skin, wearing a tiara and sequined jumpsuit. It set off a social media backlash, with critics saying it underlined the lack of diversity in the fashion industry. In Rome, members of the public suggested the "controversy is slightly exaggerated." "They did not change her look like a black person," said fashion fan Martina Acanfora. "Just tanned." Others suggested that Klein is already known for darkening the skin of models in his photographs, making the backlash a "sterile controversy." It is the photographer (Steven) Klein's usual attitude, it is also his photography particularly," said De Marchis Angelo. "If people would know the photographer's background, they would haven't been offended, as they are."   Hadid, in a post on Instagram Thursday, said diversity needs to be addressed and she does not want "to take opportunities away from anyone else." She said the cover shoot by Klein, including bronzing of her skin and digital editing of the photo, "was not executed correctly and concerns that have been brought up are valid." "I want to address this for those who were offended by the editing/retouch/coloring of the cover. Please know that things would have been different if my control of the situation was different," the model said. "Regardless, I want to apologize because I never want to diminish these concerns." Vogue Italia said Klein's "vision was to create a beachwear-themed story with a stylized bronzing effect," adding that "we understand that the result has caused some debate with our readers, and we sincerely apologize if we have caused any offense." The Archives | SURFER Volume 2, Issue 2
The third issue of The Surfer (Surfer Magazine’s original title) was published in the summer of 1961. Founder John Severson shot the cover image of Reynolds Yater, stating that he snapped "the-difficult-to-get underneath shot" just before Yater ran over him. After only two published issues, Severson already knew his audience loved deconstructing his magazine for the photos. Severson provides a giant two-page spread in this issue sarcastically framed as "suitable for tearing out and glassing on your board, wall, or you." Throughout the issue, Severson doesn't hold back in giving an honest assessment of contemporary surf culture. At the time, beaches were being shut-down and/or considered for closure due to disrespectful behavior by, who Severson refers to as, "gremlins" and "ho-daddies"-the equivalent to kooks and barneys. He offers a satirical checklist of bad behaviors for these "surfers" lacking in actual talent to obtain "their strong need of recognition." Mixed among the suggestions to "destroy" and "undress in public" was "flip bottle caps and make lewd remarks at surfing movies." The latter was especially annoying to Severson because the growing negative reputation of surfers as a whole was making it difficult for him to find venues willing to let him screen his surf films. In a feature about Peru, Severson gives great insight on how he discovered exotic waves to travel to. While surfers today are able to look for potential swell magnets using Google Maps, Severson used a more analogue approach to surf discovery. He reports spending hours in his college library flipping through encyclopedias looking for photos of waves captured by photographers on accident. "Usually I had to settle for distant shots of surf lines behind some peasant tending flocks on the coast of somewhere," he writes on page three. One of the more interesting things about this issue is the debut of the comic strip Murphy, illustrated by the newly hired cartoonist, Rick Griffin. Murphy was an instant hit with Surfer’s audience and would appear regularly in future issues. This issue’s comic strip, titled “Murphy and the Surfing Contest,” breaks down different varieties of surfers with tongue-in-cheek illustrations. It's funny, identifiable and clear to see why Murphy was a success, the cliff-hanging “to-be-continued…” conclusion built anticipation for the next issue.
