Exhibition of Aivazovsky's dramatic seascapes opens

04:56
(3 Aug 2016) FOR CLEAN VERSION SEE STORY NUMBER: 4048710 LEAD IN: 150 works by the Russian seascape painter, Ivan Aivazovsky have gone on display in Moscow. Credited with creating absorbing, 3D effect paintings, Aivazovsky is considered one of the greatest marine artists of all time, STORY-LINE: A master of seascapes, Ivan Aivazovsky was born in 1817 to a merchant family in Theodosia, Crimea. And it was his native Black Sea that dominated his works. After graduating from St. Petersburg Academy of Arts with a gold medal he quickly gained international fame for his stunning scenes of boats, battleships and turbulent waves. Over his lifetime Aivazovsky created some 6,000 paintings. The new exhibition at Moscow's State Tretyakov gallery features 100 of those as well as 50 graphic works that allow visitors to see the best examples of the painter's seascapes including "The Black Sea" (1881), "The Ninth Wave" (1850), "The Wave" (1889) and "The Rainbow" (1873). State Tretyakov Gallery Director, Zelfira Tregulova, Tretyakov says: "A sinking ship, a boat or a sailing ship in rough sea - Aivazovsky was a past master of this kind of seascape. He developed an amazing technique and manner of depicting water and light (shining) through water. Strange as it may seem - I believe many (visitors) will notice it today - he is very close to the great British landscape artist William Turner." His colossal canvases draw visitors deep into his stormy scenarios creating a 3D effect that, according to exhibition curator, Galina Churak, rivals modern 3D technology. "My colleagues and I quite often use now the comparison, so familiar to modern people - 3d or 4d effect. It's the participation effect, involvement effect. Long before this modern technology was created, the artist had possessed the secret," she says. Despite living close to the sea, Aivazovsky did not create his seascapes from nature. it was his memory and imagination that were responsible for the masterpieces. Gallery deputy director, Tatyana Karpova says: "Walls were painted terra-cotta in his studio in Theodosia. There were no windows towards the sea in his studio. He worked from memory. He didn't need to have the sea always in front of his eyes although it was close, behind the walls of his house. He believed that it's impossible to draw from nature a storm, a flash of lightning, a roaring wind." Called "Ivan Aivazovsky For The 200th Anniversary," the exhibition opened on 29th July 2016 - what would have been Aivazovsky's 199th birthday. It runs until November 20th. 01:15:20
Ivan Aivazovsky: A collection of 729 paintings (HD) *UPDATE (added over 150 new paintings than previous video) Description: "One of the most fascinating and richly talented artists of the past two centuries was undoubtedly the Armenian-Russian painter Ivan Aivazovsky. Ethnically an Armenian, he was born the city of Feodosiya which was then a part of the Russian Empire. Today Feodosiya is a port city in the Crimean Ukraine. Although Aivazovsky was born in 1817 into a poor family, his father did an amazing job of providing him with a high quality education, teaching him to speak several languages fluently. The young Aivazovsky also showed extraordinary artistic potential from an early age, which proved to be his ticket to a future life of wealth and fame as one of Europe’s most brilliant artists. Aivazovsky earned a seat in the Simferopol gymnasium No. 1. His most important training came in Russia’s St. Petersburg Academy of Arts – his raw talent was his payment for a first-class education." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters --- Thank you so much for your support!

14:53
Autumn of 1845. Upon returning from a sea expedition under the leadership of Admiral Fyodor Litke, the painter Ivan Aivazovsky asked the Academy of Arts and the Main Naval Headquarters to extend his stay in Crimea so that he could finish the work he had begun. In response, he received permission to stay until May of the following year. That same year, he bought a piece of land on a deserted beach in Crimea overlooking the Black Sea and started building his own house. Throughout his life, the artist traveled back and forth between Feodosia and St. Petersburg. Then in 1847, Aivazovsky was accepted to the position of professor at the Academy of Fine Arts. _ Subscribe to UATV English: https://goo.gl/VHU7bk Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UATVEN Twitter: https://twitter.com/UATV_en Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/uatv.en Medium: https://medium.com/@UATV_English Watch UATV live: http://uatv.ua

Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky

14:59
29 July 1817 – 2 May 1900) was a Russian Romantic painter who is considered one of the greatest masters of marine art. Baptized as Hovhannes Aivazian, Aivazovsky was born into an Armenian family in the Black Sea port of Feodosia in Crimea and was mostly based there. Following his education at the Imperial Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg, Aivazovsky traveled to Europe and lived briefly in Italy in the early 1840s. He then returned to Russia and was appointed the main painter of the Russian Navy. Aivazovsky had close ties with the military and political elite of the Russian Empire and often attended military maneuvers. He was sponsored by the state and was well-regarded during his lifetime. The saying "worthy of Aivazovsky's brush", popularized by Anton Chekhov, was used in Russia for describing something lovely. One of the most prominent Russian artists of his time, Aivazovsky was also popular outside Russia. He held numerous solo exhibitions in Europe and the United States. During his almost 60-year career, he created around 6,000 paintings, making him one of the most prolific artists of his time. The vast majority of his works are seascapes, but he often depicted battle scenes, Armenian themes, and portraiture. Most of Aivazovsky's works are kept in Russian, Ukrainian and Armenian museums as well as private collections. During his 60-year career, Aivazovsky produced around 6,000 paintings of, what one online art magazine describes, "very different value ... there are masterpieces and there are very timid works".However, according to one count as many as 20,000 paintings are attributed to him.The vast majority of Aivazovsky's works depict the sea.He rarely drew dry-landscapes and created only a handful of portraits.According to Rosa Newmarch Aivazovsky "never painted his pictures from nature, always from memory, and far away from the seaboard." Rogachevsky wrote that "His artistic memory was legendary. He was able to reproduce what he had seen only for a very short time, without even drawing preliminary sketches."Bolton praised "his ability to convey the effect of moving water and of reflected sun and moonlight." Aivazovsky died on 19 April (2 May in New Style) 1900 in Feodosia. In accordance with his wishes, he was buried at the courtyard of St. Sargis Armenian Church.A white marble sarcophagus was made by Italian sculptor L. Biogiolli in 1901.A quote from Movses Khorenatsi's History of Armenia in Classical Armenian is engraved on his tombstone: (Mahkanatsu tsneal anmah ziurn yishatak yetogh),which translates: "He was born a mortal, left an immortal legacy" or "Born as a mortal, left the immortal memory of himself".After his death, his wife Anna led a generally secluded life and died on July 25, 1944. She was buried next to Aivazovsky. [from Wikipedia] Music: Alio Die "Vulnerable Choice"
