Comparing 1-Inch vs. 1 1/2-Inch Curls | HOT Tools XL Barrel

04:01
We’re comparing curls from a 1-inch and 1 ½-inch barrel from HOT Tools to see what curl we like the most. Read our blog here: http://ow.ly/XUoze Please like to show us support and don't forget to SUBSCRIBE! Follow The Style Garage on: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheStyleGarage Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheStyleGarage2 Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/thestylegarage The verdict? Skip to 2:23 We’re kind of loving Chelsie’s 1 ½-inch curls. They’re loose, relaxed and perfectly wavy enough for any occasion. The 1 ½-inch barrel gives large, tousled, beachy curls. The 1-inch side give defined curls that lend a vintage, modern vibe to her look. The 1-inch barrel gives full curls and distinct waves. 1-inch vs. 1 ½-inch Barrel? What We Learned: The 1-inch barrel is good for all hair types and might work especially well on shorter hair that’s harder to get around the barrel. If you have long hair, a 1-inch curling iron is also going to give you a tighter curl that may last longer than curls from a larger barrel. We also loved that the Extra Long Barrel from Hot Tools sped up our curling time on this side. The 1 ½-inch barrel is perfect for medium to long hair. It’s a pretty large barrel so you’ll need a good amount of length to achieve the right look. A 1 ½-inch curling iron will give you a celebrity curl that’s totally on-trend right now. We used this curling iron to achieve the waves. For the 1-inch curls, we used a Hot Tools Extra Long Barrel 24k Gold. Here are the benefits: • It has two extra inches of room at the end of the barrel, which allowed us to wrap the hair around it without ever overlapping the hair. • The longer barrel meant we could curl hair faster with more definition, since the hair was more evenly distributed across the heat source. • The rotating tip was amazing. We could roll the hair up faster on the barrel, allowing us to curl the hair in a relatively short amount of time. • Hot Tools Pulse Technology ensured that the iron stayed the same temperature for even, uniform results in the curl. What’s your favorite size barrel or curl? Comment below. To purchase a Hot Tools Extra Long Barrel 24k Gold, register or log in to The Style Garage for more details.

Jeri Tries Kevin.Murphy HAIR.RESORT on Her Curly Hair | 1 Product, 3 Ways | Kevin Murphy Review

02:30
I’m using Kevin.Murphy's HAIR.RESORT for the first time—the one in gel form—so this review should be entertaining and awkward. Please like to show us support and don't forget to SUBSCRIBE! Read the full story on our website: http://ow.ly/S5VZv Hi everyone, it’s Jeri! This is a video in our three-part series called "1 Product, 3 Ways," where we test out a product from The Style Garage on different hair types, styles, lengths and colors. Stay tuned for Jane and Meg's episodes in the next few weeks. Product: Kevin.Murphy HAIR.RESORT http://ow.ly/S5VjC Hair Type: Long, curly and fine Style I Want: Loose, defined waves My hair type is exactly long and fine so this should work out well! I’m using Hair.Resort to see if it rejuvenates my style from a few days ago when I used a flat iron to put some in some waves. Hopefully this product will rejuvenate the waves and—with added eye shadow pigment in the product—shine up any dullness that I have. I watched a Kevin.Murphy video and he used a quarter-sized amount. In my video, you’ll see that I accidentally poured a lot more than that. Oops! The directions say apply to damp or dry hair, scrunch in and you’re good to go. First, I’ll emulsify it because that’s product 101, ya know? It’s smells super good, by the way. When you scrunch in the product, try to avoid getting it all in one area. My First Impression My first impression is that it’s making it a lot shiner, that’s for sure. I’m probably not going to do a ton on top because I don’t want to risk having a shiny greasy look at my roots. I can already feel a difference on one side compared to the side that doesn’t have it—the product kind of feels like hairspray in a gel form. I did read about the fact that it’s supposed to give you all day strong hold. Use as Alternative to Hairspray It might be a good alternative to hairspray if you want to make sure those curls stay in there all day. Thanks for watching! When you complete the braid, wrap into a bun. Bobby pin the end of the braid into the bun to hold it in place. The braided bun is a great way to keep your neck cool!

KEVIN.MURPHY DOO.OVER Review from Meg | The Style Garage

01:58
Watch Meg's KEVIN.MURPHY DOO.OVER review! DOO.OVER is a triple-threat product with a one-of-a-kind blend of hairspray, volumizing powder and dry shampoo. The entire office has been waiting to try DOO.OVER since we heard about its existence. Without further ado, we’d like to introduce the newest product to the KEVIN.MURPHY line, DOO.OVER. Inspired by POWDER.PUFF, FRESH.HAIR and SESSION.SPRAY, this dry finishing hairspray has the power to mold, form and shape. The formula is different compared to other sprays. Using powder technology, it creates openness and texture. DOO.OVER does not hold by creating web of resin. Instead, it gives the benefits of a flash dry-styler mixed with dry shampoo, separating the stands and blowing the hair apart so it looks fuller and thicker. Even though it contains properties of hairspray, the hair is still touchable, shapeable and doesn’t create buildup. It’s suitable for all hair types and lengths and works especially well when you’re trying to create volume with thin hair. This product is perfect for prepping hair for updos as well. Use this one-of-a-kind product on dry hair, focusing on the roots for volume. DOO.OVER contains Tapioca Starch, Virginian Cedarwood and Patchouli—and basically smells like Christmas in a can. Grab a can of DOO.OVER now and try it yourself! Log in or Register at The Style Garage. Everyone's "doo-ing" it. Please like to show us support and don't forget to SUBSCRIBE! Prep hair with product to be curled. Create a 3-inch halo section around the head and clip away. Smooth remaining hair with a bristle brush and secure with an elastic. This will be stitched over in Step 4. Quick Tip: Use a flat iron on this section before smoothing, avoiding ends. 2. Take a ½-inch parting from the inside of the halo section, creating subsections to be braided. Starting in the front of the head, braid subsections back to the nape. Join together and secure with an elastic. (Make sure the braids sit ON TOP of the previously smoothed section.) Release smoothed section from the elastic. 3. Curl all hair with desired iron size. Apply finishing product once curls are done. 4. Starting at the top of the head, tie fabric to either braid. STITCH back and forth creating a zig-zag pattern ending at the nape. Tie to braid when finished. Cut any remaining material. 5. Take small sections from the halo, STITCH into the braid in a looping pattern. Quick Tip: Keep STITCHing and looping hair into the braid to create an updo.

Spray vs. Gel? KEVIN.MURPHY HAIR.RESORT Review (with Jane!) | 1 Product, 3 Ways | The Style Garage

02:08
What's the diff? Today we're reviewing KEVIN.MURPHY HAIR.RESORT and peeling apart the differences between the spray and gel versions. Please like to show us support and don't forget to SUBSCRIBE! KEVIN.MURPHY HAIR.RESORT.SPRAY:http://www.thestylegarage.com/Product/KEVIN_pd_MURPHY/Styling/HAIR_pd_RESORT_SPRAY/KMU259?size=KMU259 KEVIN.MURPHY HAIR.RESORT gel: http://www.thestylegarage.com/Product/KEVIN_pd_MURPHY/Styling/HAIR_pd_RESORT/KMU023?size=KMU023 The main difference between the spray and gel is that HAIR.RESORT spray offers a heat protectant up to 428 degrees Fahrenheit. Think of the HAIR.RESORT spray as just a lighter version of the lotion. Got it? :D Jane is using the gel and spray for her review of HAIR.RESORT by KEVIN.MURPHY. What she finds? They really look the same. The great thing about KEVIN.MURPHY HAIR.RESORT is that the spray and gel allows the product to act as both a foundational product and a finishing product. That extra heat protection makes the spray great for those who want to incorporate it into their entire styling process--it's also great for precise application! Finish off your look with the gel and you're good to go! Do you like her waves? Here's Jane's trick: Wet your hair at night, apply HAIR.RESORT and roll your hair into a bun on the top of your head. When you wake up? BOOM. Gorgeous waves*. *Results may vary, as Jane is a gorgeous goddess with amazing hair. Kevin.Murphy HAIR.RESORT on Meg's Thick, Short Hair | 1 Product, 3 Ways | Kevin Murphy Review

02:42
Beachy, textured waves are in your future. With Meg's help, discover Kevin.Murphy's HAIR.RESORT and the history behind the product. Please like to show us support and don't forget to SUBSCRIBE! Hi everyone, it’s Meg! This is a video in our three-part series called 1 Product, 3 Ways, where we test out a product from The Style Garage on different hair types, styles, lengths and colors. In this series, we’re delving into HAIR.RESORT and trying it on three different hair types: long, curly and fine (Jeri), short straight and thick (with me) and long, wavy and fine (with Jane). Product: Kevin.Murphy HAIR.RESORT spray http://ow.ly/SpcgW Hair Type: Short and thick Style I Want: Textured waves Confidence Level: Bring on the texture! The original HAIR.RESORT started in a gel bottle. Kevin Murphy decided he needed something easier to apply so he turned it into a spray. Today, I’m going to demo the spray for you. History of HAIR.RESORT The gel was created at a photo shoot for Sports Illustrated. The hair product that Kevin Murphy was working with got washed in with the eye shadow of a makeup artist on the shoot and ocean water. With very little time to get other hair product, he decided to use the product that had been created with salt water, eye shadow and the hair gel he started with. He found that the results were really great and the eye shadow gave a cool sheen to the hair. With that as inspiration, he created HAIR.RESORT! Trying it Out! This morning I used a wand to create waves in my hair. I’m going to use the spray to add texture. I’m growing my hair out, so I have layers in the back that get long between cuts and create a mullet type look. What I like about using this product to create a lot of texture with my waves is that it sort of blends all those lengths together. I’m able to go longer between my trims without my hair looking awkward. After spraying HAIR.RESORT onto my thick hair, my waves are definitely more textured and pretty beachy looking. That was easy! Thanks for watching! Compare and Contrast: DOO.OVER and FRESH.HAIR from KEVIN.MURPHY

06:13
We're comparing and contrasting KEVIN.MURPHY's DOO.OVER and FRESH.HAIR, answering your most frequently asked questions about the differences in each product. Type of Product DOO: Dry Powder Finishing Hairspray. Performance of POWDER.PUFF, SESSION.SPRAY and TEXTURE.MASTER combined. FRESH: Dry Shampoo Level of Excitement DOO: VERY EXCITED! HIGHLY ANTICIPATED PRODUCT! FRESH: We all love dry shamp. It’s a must-have product in our arsenal. Description DOO: Description is pretty straightforward. A dry finishing hairspray with holding power to mold, form and shape, while giving you the freedom of movement. FRESH: Definitely beats out DOO.OVER in description department. A dry cleaner for the hair that gives body and texture, removes odors, excess oil, and all your sins from the night before. Ounces DOO: 8.53 oz. FRESH: 8.45 oz. Spray DOO: Heavy (but will not weigh down the hair!) FRESH: Light Smell DOO: Christmas in a can. FRESH: Clean smelling! Doesn’t smell like baby powder—very important. Color DOO: We haven’t seen a color residue in the actual product, but can we talk about the awesome can color? The blush pink definitely elevates the elegance of the product. FRESH: A significantly less amount of white residue than other products we’ve tried. It still needs to be worked into the hair, but you might be surprised at how much little white residue is left behind! Effect DOO: Creates space and texture with hold. Creates volume for a sleek updo or a messy, lived-in feel for bedroom hair. FRESH: Removes excess oil and gives hair a matte look and fresh-washed feel without the water. Lasts All Day DOO: Product has a style memory, so it lasts all day. Unless you choose to reshape hair throughout the day, the style you initially create with DOO.OVER remains the same, including volume. FRESH: Use every day the same amount. Hair Types DOO: Suitable for all hair types. Works especially well on thin hair for volume or thick hair that needs to be really large! FRESH: Suitable for all hair types. Styling DOO: Designed as a styling aid to create second-day hair. FRESH: This product cleans oil from unwashed, oily hair. Not designed as a styling aid, but could be used to create texture, matte look. Application DOO: Focus on mid-lengths and underneath layers. More hairspray-ish sprays. FRESH: Focus on the partline and hairline. Short sprays. THE VERDICT: How Will We Use Each Product? DOO: We’ll use this to create volume under our layers without backcombing. This is now our go-to texturizer with a bit of hold. SO USEFUL. FRESH: From now on, we’ll just use as a dry shampoo. We would definitely use FRESH.HAIR as our texturizer if we ran out of DOO.OVER, though. When traveling, we’d also just pack FRESH.HAIR to save room. What parent is going to pick a favorite child? We love both of these products. They’ve found a home on our bathroom counter and will be used in combination for good hair days to come. Watch Meg's KEVIN.MURPHY FRESH.HAIR review! KEVIN.MURPHY FRESH.HAIR Review from Meg | The Style Garage

02:55
Watch Meg's KEVIN.MURPHY FRESH.HAIR review! FRESH.HAIR is a dry shampoo with some serious cleaning power. Please like to show us support and don't forget to SUBSCRIBE! FRESH.HAIR has the best description of all the products in our store. “It removes odors, excess oils and all your sins from the night before.” FRESH.HAIR is the BFF of hair products. You can always rely on it to pull through in the end. Whether you use it to put off the wash-rinse-repeat or create texture, FRESH.HAIR is a must-have in every bathroom. For every can of FRESH.HAIR sold, a financial contribution will be made to help reduce global carbon emissions. SHAKE IT UP! This product needs a lot of shaking before you spray. Apply to the partline and hairline. Application for dry shampoo is different than hairspray. Spray the product in short, quick bursts. To work the product into your hair, use your fingers or blow-dry it in (this is especially handy if you need to work a kink out of the hair.) Have an “oops” moment with a shine product? Use dry shampoo to remove it and start anew. Sweaty after a workout? The first burst of dry shampoo will cool the scalp and remove the “greaser” look. Spraying dry shampoo throughout the hair creates texture. Lift up ends and spray into the hair. Scrunch with fingers to disperse. This product creates a matte finish with volume and texture. Focus on mid-lengths and ends. If you spray into curls, the texture gives a “cool girl” vibe. This product’s sassy description alone should make you want to grab a can today—and the performance is even more convincing! Log in or register at The Style Garage. SHIMMER.SHINE Review with Meg

01:42
Check out our SHIMMER.SHINE review with Meg. This product revives shine and repairs hair with no oily residue. What is the product’s official name? SHIMMER.SHINE What do the directions say? Spray lightly over hair after styling. Twirl the bottle to distribute the gold flakes instead of shaking up and down. How did you feel or what did you know about the product before you used it? Before I even used the product I loved the shape of the bottle because it fit my hand so easily. I also loved that the bottle literally has specs of gold floating around. It’s a beautiful product that I am proud to display in my bathroom not hide in a cupboard. What’s your hair type? I think my hair is fine in texture but there is a lot of it so it’s very dense. My hair is colored. Did anything surprise you? I love the scent and how shiny my hair looks without the oil giving me a greasy look. Also, the spray doesn’t weigh down the hair or make it feel heavy. What is the consistency or color of the product? The color is clear, the gold flakes are of course glittery gold and the consistency is a liquid oil. What does it feel like in your hair? It feels slick and soft in the hair. What change did you notice after using it? I noticed a glossy look to my hair. When I spritz it over my head, I feel like a movie star in a commercial. I may or may not pretend to be in a hair commercial with Blake Lively. A girl can dream! Who or what would it be good for? SHIMMER.SHINE is great for all hair types. The gold flecks and shine make anyone’s hair look beautiful. If you wonder how celebrities have such shiny hair on the red carpet – this is the product that will make your hair look the same way. Would you use it again? Yes – I have been using this product everyday! //Music Info// Carefree by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1400037 Artist: http://incompetech.com/

How-to: Wedding Sock Bun // The Style Garage

04:51
In a few easy steps, Jeri shows you how little effort you need to create the perfect ballerina bun. Please like to show us support and don't forget to SUBSCRIBE! Follow The Style Garage on: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheStyleGarage Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheStyleGarage2 Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/thestylegarage Long hair, don’t care is a great tagline for Clay Matthews, but for most of us with lengthy locks, it takes a bit more effort to finish a style. Let Jeri show you how to lessen your getting ready time with this easy wedding sock bun tutorial. The first step for this easy technique is to select an old sock. Consider your hair color when choosing the sock. The thicker the sock, the thicker the bun. No matter the color or thickness of the sock, the ankle elastic needs to be strong. Now, cut the toe area of the sock off. You can throw this piece away or create a cool new craft. Be sure to show us your sock creation, if you do! Start with the elastic ankle end and roll the material down, forming a doughnut shape. Now, place your hair in a ponytail. The center of the ponytail will be the center of your bun. Slip the sock doughnut onto the base of your ponytail. Slide the doughnut up to the tip of your ponytail until it almost comes off. Tuck your ends underneath the bottom of the sock doughnut. Start rolling and your hair will start to cover the sock doughnut. If you have layers like Jeri, use bobby pins to tuck them into the bun. Whether you’re wearing this to a wedding reception, the office or a ballet class, you’ll save your self time and energy by using a DIY sock doughnut.

Running out the door? Grab a headband for this Style Under 5. Allison teaches you an Easy Headband Tuck. Please like to show us support and don't forget to SUBSCRIBE! This look takes your hair from Medusa to model when you’ve forgotten your flat iron, woken up late or simply need to look like you’ve tried really hard to style your locks. Place the headband in the traditional placement a la Blair Waldorf or on the front of the forehead like a Greek goddess. Take two large sections of hair in the front, twist them a bit and tuck under the headband strap. Repeat that with the sections in the front, then continue to the hair on the sides and back. Tuck all strands of hair into the headband. If you have a lot of layers, a few bobby pins will help tuck the ends in. If you’re wanting an unfinished, bedhead look, use a texture spray before tucking hair into the headband. For more volume at the crown of the head, tease hair before placing the headband. How to Make a Sideswept Fishtail Braid | Braid Tutorial

04:11
Braids are amazing. They take a hair day from bad to "BAM" in a few minutes flat, leaving you looking like a hair goddess. In this video, Connie and Jane from The Style Garage team give you step-by-step instructions on how to create a sideswept fishtail braid. Please like to show us support and don't forget to SUBSCRIBE! Read the full story on our website: http://ow.ly/Q39vc Thanks for watching! Follow The Style Garage on: Facebook: http://ow.ly/Q3ddG Twitter: http://ow.ly/Q3djd Pinterest: http://ow.ly/Q3dqB Step-by-Step Instructions 1. At the crown of the head, take a section approximately 3 to 4 inches wide on the side that has more hair. Separate into two sections. Cross those sections to make an X. (It’s very important to keep the X shape or you will lose the fishtail!) This will be the main section of hair that you add pieces to. 2. Now you’ll start your French fishtail process down the head. While holding the two main sections in your left hand, take your right hand and gather a new piece of hair from the right side of the head. As that right hand is crossing over with the hair, add a small piece of the main right section of the X to your right hand. To complete the step, cross completely over and add the whole piece of hair to your main left section of the X. 3. Switch hands so you’re holding the two main X sections in your right hand. With your left hand, gather a new piece of hair from the left side of the head. As you cross over, add a small piece of the main left section of the X to your left hand. Combine those two pieces of hair and cross tightly over, adding the whole piece of hair to your main right section of the X. 4. Repeat steps 3 and 4, working your way down the head until you reach the neck. Make sure to pull the hair tight so it will stay secure all day; you will be pulling sections later to loosen the braid for a nighttime look. When you get to the neck and there is no hair on either side to add to the main X sections, continue down the braid by taking small outside pieces from each main section, crossing them over the X and adding to the opposite main section, keeping the X shape all the way down. Secure with a rubber band. To purchase the products used to prep the hair in this video, visit thestylegarage.com and order online! 3 Ways to Mix Brocato Holdon Gel

02:14
How do you use hair gel? I'm giving you three ways to mix Brocato Holdon Gel with other styling products--also known as a cocktail! Please like to show us support and don't forget to SUBSCRIBE! Follow The Style Garage on: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheStyleGarage Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheStyleGarage2 Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/thestylegarage The last hair gel I used was probably a green, gooey concoction from an L.A. Looks bottle back in the ‘90s. Which brings me to my next point… How do you use hair gel? We’re tackling the question at The Style Garage with three ways to cocktail Brocato’s Holdon Styling Gel with other styling products. About Holdon Styling Gel Holdon Styling Gel is one of Brocato’s original five products created by Sam Brocato. Hair gel might sound like an antiquated product, but it’s making quite the comeback because of its texturizing ability. I especially love Holdon Styling Gel for the consistency. The texture is more liquid-y than other gels I’ve used, which makes it easy to layer without using too much. I’m going to give you three options today on how to mix and modernize your gel. Cocktail these options when your hair is damp. 1. For a Soft Glaze 1 nickel-sized dollop of Holdon Styling Gel + 6-8 sprays of Detangle Conditioning Spray from the mid-shafts to the ends. 2. For Shine with Hold 1 nickel-sized dollop of Holdon Styling Gel + 2 pumps of Shine Drops Smoothing Serum 3. For Enhanced Texture 1 nickel-sized dollop of Holdon Styling Gel + 1 quarter-sized amount of Texture Creme Stick with us. We’re making The Style Garage an informative hub for any information you need on Brocato. More reviews to come soon!

Get To Know Cote Hybrid Shampoo & Conditioner

03:26
Check out our Cote Hair Shampoo and Conditioner review with Erin. This duo is a sulfate-free, vegan friendly options that cleanses without stripping the hair of its vital moisture. What is the product’s official name? I tested the Cotê Hair Cleanse Hybrid Shampoo and Cleanse Hybrid 2-in-1 Treatment Conditioner What do the directions say? The shampoo reads, “Emulsify small amount in hands. Massage into scalp. Rinse thoroughly. The conditioner says to “Remove excess water from hair. Apply at the ends of hair working up to the scalp. Leave in 30 seconds for daily use, or 7 minutes for a more intense treatment.” How did you feel or what did you know about the product before you used it? I heard about the product but never tried it! I knew that it was vegan friendly with no animal testing, no animal byproducts, gluten-free, sulfate-free and paraben-free, so I was excited to try it. What’s your hair type? Fine and slightly wavy. Did anything surprise you? I was surprised it was for all hair types. Also, I thought it was cool that you could leave the conditioner in for 7 minutes as an intensive treatment to restore dry, damaged hair. What does it smell like? A fresh, plant-like smell. I’m thinking it’s from the blend of “Argan, Sunflower and Grape Seed Oils with Panthenol, Hydrolyzed Quinoa and Corn Proteins,” but what do I know? What is the consistency or color of the product? The conditioner was really thick and extra conditioner-y. :D What does it feel like in your hair? The shampoo definitely didn’t create suds, which is why they say emulsify in the hands. It’s a great tip I’ll use for other sulfate-free shampoos! What change did you notice after using it? My hair felt really fresh and clean with enough weight to style using minimal styling products. It wasn’t dry and slippery. Who or what would it be good for? People who are vegan and love environmentally friendly products. The conditioner also saves you money, because you’re buying a conditioner and mask all in one. Would you use it again? Yes, for sure! Loved the clean, natural scent. //Music Info// Carefree by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1400037 Artist: http://incompetech.com/

Brocato Powerfix Review | The Style Garage

Brocato Powerfix is a popular hairspray at The Style Garage. Tested and approved, this product stands up to the claims made on its simple label. Please like to show us support and don't forget to SUBSCRIBE! Follow The Style Garage on: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheStyleGarage Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheStyleGarage2 Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/thestylegarage The product does not build up. There is a lot of hold but a brush can still pass through the hair for workable control with a touch of shine. This hairspray smells clean, fresh and similar to laundry. The spray nozzle is a pump, which can make application tricky, as Erin discovered. Keep the nozzle away from your head when applying. If the nozzle becomes clogged, run it under warm water to remove the blockage. While Erin used this on dry hair, you can also apply to damp hair.
