Iconic Lifts - Episode 1: Deep Temerity

03:19
The Deep Temerity lift at Aspen Highlands was built in 2005, transforming the ski area into a hill that now offers steep terrain courtesy of the Highlands Bowl. What makes us feel so safe and comfortable on a steel chair hanging 100 feet or more in the air? A ski lift—like Alta’s Wildcat, Aspen’s Deep Temerity, Helbronner’s Skyway, and Squaw’s KT-22—is more than metal and mechanics. They’re manmade constructs that lead us to nirvana, influencing ourdecisions and allowing us to feel connected…to ourselves, friends, and strangers. A Powder Productions Original, the Iconic Lifts series, presented by Strafe Outerwear, launches Wednesday, November 9. Over the next month, we’ll be launching a series of short episodes featuring interviews and skiing from these prestigious places. Each lift has a story, where men and women toiled to bring us these modes of transportation to augment the ski experience.

Stepping Beyond: McRae Williams

02:58
This video was produced in partnership with lululemon men. Earlier this year, 27-year-old slopestyle skier McRae Williams qualified for his first Olympics, but his road to PyeongChang was not always smooth. Williams’ father died when he was 10, after which he settled into a pattern of negative thinking that held him back as a skier and a person. He couldn’t break through; he got in his own head, he never quite fulfilled his potential. It wasn’t until Williams learned to harness the power of mindfulness, visualization, and positive thinking that he started to get the results of which he’d always dreamed. Starting the winter of 2016/17 with a World Cup victory, Williams ripped off a series of wins and podium finishes that resulted in an X Games silver medal, the gold at the slopestyle World Championship, and the overall World Cup Crystal Globe for slopestyle. For Williams, his career started with his physical training and athleticism, but it evolved when he began to realize his mental strength.

Powder Productions - 2018-19 Reel

02:03
Powder Productions is an award-winning video and multimedia production house, extending the quality of storytelling from the magazine and Powder.com into short-form and long-form video and film and multimedia features. An extension of the magazine, Jake and Dave Moe founded POWDER in 1972 as an alternative to the other, uptight skiing magazines. "To us, powder skiing means freedom, with an emphasis, not on how you do it, but just on doing it more," they said. That's what we're still trying to do. Powder to the People.

Head Kore 105 - 2018 POWDER Buyer's Guide

01:52
A versatile shredstick that holds its own in the resort and out the backcountry gate, the Head Kore 105 is a 2018 POWDER Buyer's Guide ski of the year. The wood core is lightweight with a carbon sandwich construction the rockered profile has an extended tip, an early rise tale, and low camber underfoot. Fun fact: The topsheet is not hard poly or fiberglass, so it’s much lighter. Our reviewers, ranging from shop techs to school teachers and males and females, called it: “Extremely stable in variable snow for its light weight” “Easy to ski but not a tip flapper” “Perfect flex to crush but soft enough to play around” “Ideal 19m radius” And even that highest of praise: “A true Quiver Killer”
