A Peek at the Dutchware Chameleon Hammock

03:43
THIS IS A KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN. SEE THOUGHTS FROM DUTCH BELOW.....Prices not yet set as far as I know. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/703694747/chameleon-hammock-by-dutchware/description http://www.dutchwaregear.com Just a first look at this right goodie of a new hammock by Dutch. I have not had it out in the field but have napped in it and am trying all the configurations. Also just got my Beetle Bug suspension so it is not in the video. The Beetle Bug is awesome. Yes, I typed Awesome. The pack hooks along the side to hook in your UQ suspension are quickly becoming my favorite feature. Even if you don't use the shock cord pullouts...the UQ suspension comes up over the end of your TQ and mades a footbox. Love that. All secure and snug as a lizard in sector seven. Shug First off I am launching it on Kickstarter. Why Kickstarter? I already know there will be some critics and some people don't like crowd funding and I certainly don't want to make that the topic of discussion on here. I have had good and bad experiences on Kickstarter and I hopefully will be able to alleviate any fears by being a reputable vendor and someone who will follow through and not drag out promises for months. I have two goals in mind with Kickstarter, first one is be able to stock all the different components so you can order this hammock and all its components and they will ship out immediately. That has been my business model all along and I want to keep with that tradition. However I want you to be able to buy a blue Hexon 1.0 body and a Dark Olive ARGON 90 top cover and have it ship within 24 hours. This hammocks enables that to happen. Also you can buy a Body now, get the bugnet when the bugs come out, and if you decide this winter to brave the cold, you can get the top cover and it will fit. That is one of the beauties of this system that is based on the patent pending zipper. You can have a body with a net and a top cover, but your friend wants to hang so all you have to do is buy another body. All the components will be interchangeable. In order to do that I need to stock and overwhelming amount of product. This will be good for everyone in the long run and mass producing these will make them more affordable. So what does the Chameleon do... I wanted to make it completely modular. You can buy a body today and a top cover next winter and it will fit. I put a lot of thought into how to accessorize it later so it can be the one hammock that will work in every circumstances. There will be organizers, bottle holders, and peak lofts. You can get grey body today and and blue top cover because you are a Dallas Cowboy fan and if you decide next year you are a Raiders fan, you can replace the top with a black top. You can buy as little as you need today and expand it as your needs change. Adapts to your environment. They way the top flips over you don't have a dedicated direction that you have to lay. This is really important if you want two hammocks side by side. You can go without a top to be light, take a bugnet, or if the weather is cold take a top cover. You can have a light weight body for hiking and a heavy duty one for car camping that use the same tops. Everything is modular so you can assemble just what you need for the kind of hammock camping experience you want. Patent pending Beetle Buckles- I wanted a new buckle system for this hammock. One that is easy to use and would work with a spreader bar. It is designed much like the cinch bug suspension but it is much easier to operate and receives a spreader bar. If you want to hang two hammocks side by side on the same trees all you have to do is add a spreader bar. If you get mad at each other during a hike, then the hammocks will work fine independently. Try to be the one that packs the tarp. There are many more features of this hammock, we put together a good vid to explain them for you. We have two patents on the components of this hammock .The Kickstarter page had a great deal of information. Thank you everybody for your support, now and over the years. This has gone from being a hobby, to a passion, to a business and I have so many of you to thank. The first 100 backers will get their hammocks sent out by March 1st! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/703694747/chameleon-hammock-by-dutchware/description

Adjusting a HammockGear Incubator Full Length Underquilt

09:53
Hammockgear....http://www.hammockgear.com Incubator Underquilt....http://www.hammockgear.com/incubator-20/ I have been wanting to do a video on how to adjust and fit a full length Hammockgear Incubator underquilt. So, I finally got a custom one made so now I can show. It pains me when folks struggle to get the proper fit on a UQ. Hammock camping has a lot of moving pieces and insulation underneath is where most folks fail. My opinion is that UQs are the most difficult part of a hammock system for most people. Hope this gives some helpful insight. Whoooooo Buddy)))) Shug

My preference for most of the year other than deep Winter is the Tree Hugger/Marlinspike Knot/Toggle Method that is used to connect a Whoopie Sling to a tree. Makes me feel like I am doing something and has little bulk. Fun to tie the knot...at least for me. I do get asked about this over and over so thought it was time for a re-visit since the original is buried in my Hammock How-To Series from years ago. This is just one option for a way to suspend your hammock and probobly the trickiest due to the knot and toggle. But I love this way....not sure why. Hope this helps some of ya'll out some. AMOK Tarp in Storm Test

02:18
Stayed high and dry in a windy severe storm in my backyard with the AMOK Tarp and Draumr 3.0 hammock. No rain blew in. But as in all tarping...things can always go different on a real trip in the woods. Site selection is alway paramount if possible. I pulled the corners of the tarp in like half doors and that proved to work well. Not a drop on me. It is fun exploring new gear and I look forward to more time with this set up. Cuben Fiber Tarp by HammockGear

05:02
A quick review of my new Hammockgear.com Cuben Fiber Tarp. ...http://www.hammockgear.com/tarps/ I love it!!!! 6.5 ounces before guylines and such. It does not come with guylines ...so choose and use your favorite. So lightweight it feels like nothing and it is big. Was kinda thinking that I would not like the translucent aspect but it so cool looking through it at the trees, sky, stars and moon. Like looking through frosted glass. A bit brighter on the inside than my other tarps but for that kinda light weight....I will take that. Throw a shirt or something on top and all is mighty fine. Cuben is the newest wonder fabric and is expensive. I am an old man and spend my money on lightweight gear to help lighten my pack load.....that plus careful packing. Hammock Hangin' How-To PART 1... Essentials For Noobs Part 1

So you got a hammock or are getting one but are perplexed by how to hang, stay warm and all that and whatnot...... not to mention trying to explain your new hobby to friends and family. Well Sevens from Hammockforums.net was searching for a video to explain just that so I tried to fill that wee gap with this production. Here is a goofy video explaining why I hammock ... how I hammock and what I use to stay warm and toasty in the hammock. Also ... my deepest thoughts on the hanging philosophy. THERE ARE SEVERAL WAYS TO HANG A HAMMOCK AND STAY WARM!!!!!! THESE ARE JUST SOME OF THE OPTIONS AVAILABLE!!! Now you gotta keep in mind that these are not the only techniques to hang ..... these are just what I currently use. You will see the hammock (my DIY hammock) and all the parts. How to hang the hammock with Whoopie Slings and the Marlin-Spike Hitch. Tree huggers ..... please use these to protect the trees!!!! Using pads to stay warm underneath.... the Speer SPE. Shug's BackPack Load for 6 Day Trip... PART 1

09:57
Whooooo Buddy! ...... Only a few more days and it is off to the mountains for a 6-7 day backpacking trip. I have had several folk e-mail me and ask for a video on what I take on a trip. Whether a 2 day or 7 day trip most of the gear is the same.... more or less fuel depending on what stove I choose .... and most of the weight is in food and water. Since I sleep in a hammock this load pertains to that mostly. Everyone packs a bit differently..... some super lightweight and some are pack mules! I consider myself lightweight ... not ultra lightweight. My base load on this trip is 16 pounds ... that is everything but consumables ... food, water, fuel. Anything that I use up on the trail. My extras are a a tea candle lantern, small saw, two cameras for videos on the trail ... I do it for you all )))) Haaaa. OK ...iloveme.com.... TRANGIA Alcohol Stove IN 2º Minnesota Cold

05:30
OK, OK ..... I know. The stove videos I have been pumping out are getting redundant but I have soooo many yet to film! I may have just found the perfect "Breakfast From The Hammock" stove . The Trangia! http://www.trangia.se/english/2924.mini_trangia.html Just take off the lid and light. May have to prime in real cold but I will find out by having it in my pocket with the fuel in it! What a feature. The stove is brass and strong. A wee bit heavier than some alcohol stoves but at 3.95 ounces it is hard to really complain. The pros outweigh the cons. Don't like the stand that comes with it .... will make one of hardware cloth. Simmers wonderfully with the simmer/snuffer lid on. Carry fuel in it! Terrific. Boiled 2 cops of cold aqua in the SnowPeak Titanium 700 Pot/Mug. Tests will continue ....... but I was lucky to have my droll expert Curtice King come by to test fly it.
